Quantum of Solace
As my current userpix suggests, on Opening Day I went to see 007's latest film Quantum of Solace. In the last few releases I've made it a habit of going opening night.
It was supposed to be a continuation of Casino Royale and as such returned with many of the returning characters. It definitely wasn't as strong as Casino Royale and to be honest it was a bit of a let down. In the dying seconds of the movie when it looked to be the end of the film I remember letting out a moan as I considered it a disappointment and knew I had to wait for a few more years for something better. Then the fade to black and end credits.
It was also disappointing in that this flick did without showing off a car. Except for the opening chase scene in Siena in an Aston Martin, Bond is seen driving around is some Ford. As well, no fancy hi-tech gadgets. And he didn't even bed the Bond Girl of the flick but rather a character that had a minor role. And not once in this movie did he instroduce himself as "Bond, James Bond".
Anyways, the theme of the movie is that Bond goes after Greene again this time follows him to Bolivia where Le Cifre sets up a puppet regime where he controls the water supply.
Besides Bolivia (but actually filmed in Chile), other locals include Italy, Haiti (but actually filmed in Panama), England, Austria, and towards the end they say Russia but the scene was so small and insignificant that they might as well have shot it in a studio.
Mathis dies and Bond disposing of his body is a side of Bond that I wish they never brought out. I thought they wouldn't have portrayed Bond this way.
In retrospect they could have done without the continuation of Casino Royale and focused on something better. Arguably one of the best Bond movies of all-time is followed up with one of the worst.
