Actually, it's fairly easy to tweak the decor here -- I believe that there's even a setting that allows for each member to choose their own look! Just learning the tweaks for now, And sure as shite, I already messed up. Saw that they offered our own "subdomain" deal and signed-up for it, thus in the future our address will be "worldfourms.forumhut.com" Easy to remember. However, I either messed-up somewhere, or have to wait untill they activate the subdomain, because as it satnds now, I am locked out of the "Administrative Panel" too! Thus I can't make you a mod just yet. Posted on their help site and should have things settled by tomorrow.

Meantime, I stick to what I said on WF -- I'll do whatever you guys want. But like you, I don't trust WX at all. In fact, I am rather upset at them as I contributed to their server drive last year -- the equivalent of four years worth of registration fees at current prices! And for what?

In addtion to that, I think we we'll ALL get fed-up with the constant nag-screens and pop-ups. Thus ultimatly, it's pay or leave -- which I am sure is their plan anyway.

As for the Administration, contrary to what others have said, we'd have no choice but to pay...as there won't be thread buttons for non-registred members.

And lastly, as much as we've gotten used to the WX software, truth is, it' s antique by Web standards. In a month or so, using this one, everyone should realize as much. There's just a lot more that can be done here.

Anyway, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

I'll give you the buttons as soon as I get mine back.

This is good. Very similar to another forum I posted at last year, before I was ceremoniously banned lol. :?

I don't think it's the same one, but it's close and certainly caters for all of our respective needs, even those special needs

In fact, I change my original vote and decide we set up shop here. I cannot see any problems with this place, and you've done a good job with the interior decor, Red.

I probably should have posted that under my own name, was just trying to see if non-members could post. Something to think about, as you might get all kind of weirdos here

I quite like the cabin in the woods style; very retro. 8)

Now all we need to do is to convince everyone else that it's worth their while abandoning WC for here. We obviously can't have some people posting here, and others elsewhere. Hopefully we all make the right choice.

The one criticism I would have about this place thus far is that there is no YU football thread. That one always attracts voluminous posts

Red

Questions:

1. Not sure I understand why the administration would have to pay. No idea what thread buttons are! Explain! (please, I'm in an unusual good mood, wouldn't write please otherwise)

2. Is there a "read new" button? IMO the most important button of all. My favourite german cycling forum just moved to a very similar forum, no "read new" button, driving me crazy! Click, open another browser, click, click....

3. Yeah, the Yugo thread!

4. Is there a feature for votings?

5. Where can I buy cigarettes?

Glad you've come around, Marko!

I'm getting more excited about this place by the minute. Check out the new address. Turns out they registered our own PRIVATE subdomain name in less than 8 houts! We are now officially worldforums.forumhut.com! AND linked to all search engines!

As for the look of the place, I very much like this one as well but as I told Falc, there's a setting that I believe allows users to choose their own skin -- meaning each individual iser can pick their style in the drop=down menu inside their profile. I'll be downloading further skins later on and turning that setting on so you guys can play with it.

As for the guest log-in, you're right, don't want that -- but no problem either. That can be tweaked to hell as well. Right do making each individual thread private as well as being able to block not just user names but IPs as well.

Feel like a kid at a candy store :D

Tell you what, we move over and after suing it for a few months and making sure we're pleased, I'd be willing to move it to our own private server this software is so cool. That would get rid of the banners and it would still be free for all our members.

Shit, I can see you guys are gonna keep moi busy for a while! Hoz about a raise! 8)

1-'Thread buttons" are the ones that let you OPEN a thread/topic, Giggi. Without them we just can't. Or delete nasty posts, or move, or design the forum, etc.

So I see no way around that.

2-Yep, there's a "read new" right in the front page.

3-Not sure they rank these forums -- looks like they are brand new, at least as far as the software -- but yeah, a Yugo thread would no doubt shoot us to the top of the standings...and keep a certain gentleman highly entertained and busy :P

4-Yep. The "poll" feature thingy. Ask a question, give the choices and let posters vote. You're welcome to play around with it, or anything else you'd like in the "test thread"

5-Right next to the booze and the loose women, of course! Protection is up to you.

1. Still don't really get it. Open threads??? Bah, if you say so... Ok, that changes things.

2. Where?? Ok, registering now, maybe only for members.

6. Shouldn't you ask the World Politics people to vote too? Would be a shame to lose the contribution of people like Barry. Not to forget my favourite comic duo klatu and bela!

7. Can we swear on this board or is it one of those stupid censoring boards. Tell me fuckhead, cunt! (Just testing...)

1-As in ANY thread, Giggi! Like say you wanted a 'Zeus is a piece of putrid chocolate; discuss" thread, we WOULDN'T be able to open one UNLESS we'd PAYED the subscription.

2-Yep. That would be my guess too. At any rate, I just changed the settings as Marko suggested. No more "guest access.' In order to post, people have to register first.

6-Sure. Of course, I will, in fact, you guys should spread the word as well.

7-Fuck no! But I can filter YOUR posts if I wanted to, you fucktard! :P

Red - Few more questions:

1. Did you pay a fee to host World Football on WX? None of us knew.

2. I see that I have administrative status. Yet, I have no idea how to go about it. Do you want to email me any instructions?

3. Do you know if there is a way to control topics? One thing I like about the WX format was that we did not have hundreds of topics created each day. Made it easier to focus on a few discussions. If people start creating their own topics each day, it will become a bit chaotic.

I like this place, I'm all for moving here.

The only thing that worries me is the ability to create new topic threads inside each discussion.

Might make for a never ending list of sub-threads.

Falc, Ali,,

AFAIK, there's no button to control "new threads," so yeah, I am not overly happy about that one particular feature either. I will however, ask the help forum is there's a way to implement/do that.

If not, we can always control thread creation by deleting those not authorized by mods. Something to discuss. At the end, might be something we could get used to -- simply edit the new threads to expire within a few days if there are no posts to it.

Tons of other great functions as well, such as making ceratin threads "private or invisible" so only certain posters can use them.

Falc, still figuring things out myself, but you should be able to get into "Administration Panel' which is linked at the bottom of the page. That gives you the 'inside scopp' so to speak. if you can't let me know, I'll ask about it as well.

Ali, I'll give you buttons shortly as well.

Like Ali and Falc stated, the one qualm I would have about this place is the fact that anyone can open new threads with impunity.

However, we're all adults here and I think we can come to an agreement where those of us who are not moderators can only request a new thread, and only moderators themselves should actually be able to open one. This involves giving the benefit of the doubt to everyone, but it can work.

We could use the forum issues thread for this very purpose.

What the fuck is this?!?!?! It's the worst interface I've ever seen. Half of it looks like some Montana Militia's outhouse, the other hald looks like an old Doctor Who set.

Found the personal view setting, but all the skins are horrible.

Other than that, not bothered whether we come here or stay over at WorldCrossing

RE: new threads
I am used to this type of format and that is how they are designed to work. But unwanted or old threads can be deleted or moved. Trust me it's fun. :)

I just hope that this move proves to be the last one. Moving usually results in losing members. :(

Red - Not sure if it was on purpose to limit changes or not but I wanted to look see if we could limit new sub-threads being opened. I'm sure there's a way to do it as there's a list within that says:

You may post replies.
You may add topics.
Etc etc etc....

Anyway, seems you need to be an administrator to look at that, moderators have lesser super powers.

Not a problem if you want to limit changes and keep admin´ down to just a person or two, just a question.

I am playing with the skins as well. Would be nice to see what they look like before picking them. And apparently, you need to log off and log back on to see the change. Two days old and we are already making complaints.

Red, I do not see an administration panel. Under my user name when I post, it states administrator but when you look to see who is logged on, it states moderator. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I am certain that once we get use to these new surroundings, things will be OK.

Are suggestions welcomed? :) Here goes..... I think it would be a good idea to design the new digs in the same scheme as the old CNNSI board. That is, the main board, Football, would then be broken down to only about 4 other sub-boards to represent the different regions, (eg. CONCACAF....) and those sub boards are then broken up into threads to represent the different federations. (English, French etc.) It could make finding your fave board easier, and reduce the temptation to start new threads. Thanks for listenting. :)

Another thing that's shit? When you post it doesn't automatically redirect you back to the thread you posted in and show you your post (and/or any others that have been added in the time it took you to post). You have to "click here" to go back to the thread. That's so .... 1997.

Guys, I've added a bunch of new skins for you to choose from.

Falc, I'll have to ask if it's possible to add Administrators. Don't see/know what else i can do give you further access into the control panel.

As for the title, that's something that's hand-written/created behind the scenes and added to your screename. For instance, I could create something called "players" for posters with more than say, 100 posts and "rookie" for one with less. But it doesn't change the actual access level of the poster.

Ali, same. Don't see any additional controls that block the "new thread" button. But as Buzz says, it's a format that I am used to. Same as the Straight Dope MB, where I've been posting for years. Again, one solution is to delete threads and/or let them die within a short time if they have no replies. By "die" I mean there's a setting that allows to set an 'expiration' period for threads with no replies.

Lastly, as Falc says, I also think it's a matter of getting used to the format and working out the kinks as we go along. Time, we have plenty of. And yes, there is that extra click Matt alludes to. I'll ask about that too -- along with a bit of patience from all of you

Try the following:

1-Log out

2-Close your browser. Re-open

3-Log in through THIS ADDDRESS: http://www.phpbbserver.com/phpbb/index. ... orldforums

4-That should do it. If not let me know.

Brazilian, this is the "chosen" one between those two. The one at Boardnation's a lot tougher to customize, while this one not only gives each poster the option to set their uwn look, but they are adding new features almost weekly. Also, I've found their support site amazingly good, they respond to any question in a matter of hours, while at Boardnation, due to their sheer size, one's just as likely to get ignored.

Lastly, after we're here for a few months, as long as everyone's happy with the format, I will likeley move it to a private server (these same guys will be offering hosting) and that should be our permanent homes for as long as we want to stick otgether as a group.

Meantime, welcome aboard!
