Always

Don't be a chump and miss my analysis of United and the rest of the EPL.

Seriously, stick around and help us with a fair revival of this board. It is what we put into it. Plus, I have been extolling United. Awesome. Brilliant.

Barcelona should be able to score against Man Utd as they're based on attack? They have the best defensive record in the PL, just 22 goals allowed all season.

Man Utd play anti-football? They're widely creditedwith playing football the way it's meant to be played. Watch a few games before giving your opinion. Chelsea and Liverpool play negative football. Arsenal, much as I dislike them, and Man Utd win while entertaining.

Might sound like I'm defending my team but the level of knowledge in some comments leaves a lot to be desired.

Ali - There was nothing entertaining about your team's performance in Barcelona. It does not matter what they did the rest of the season but in that match, they were awful to watch.

Spalletti called Manchester United the best Italian side he has seen in a while. Look, if an Italian club did what your team did, we would hear it for years. The air was taken out of the ball and it was intentional. It was not some bad day.

I agree with Mr. Dunki Donuts. Thisis the Way Manchester United plays or rather, doesn't play football on a weekly basis. A sad story indeed except for the win hungry losers that live vicariously.

What games were you guys watching? Look, United was more cautious playing a team like Barcelona, correctly adjusting their tactics. However, this was far from catenaccio football. Besides, just like so called defensive Italian outfits, United still plays an excellent possession and skill game...atypical of the British...well, at least since 1970.

United is a positive football story. You can't spin it any other way.

I certainly didn't watch Manu U every week or more than twice for that matter but I suspect Gabriele Marcotti has: Here's his take on the semi-finals:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/w ... index.html

....Call it organization. Call it Catenaccio. Call it diabolical. Call it intelligent. Call it dull. Call it effective. All of the above are probably true to some degree. But there is no question that one truism has insinuated itself into the hearts and minds of three of the English Premier League's big four: To do well in the knockout phase of the Champions League, you need to treat each tie as one 180-minute game and, more importantly, stopping your opponent from playing is more important than imposing yourself on the game.

….

Sir Alex's "strikerless system," with Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney, Tévez and Ryan Giggs shifting positions seamlessly, was a joy to behold. With so much firepower and no fixed reference points, it was extremely difficult to defend, not to mention tactically innovative.

Yet when it comes to the Champions League, it has been a very different United. You saw shades of it against Roma in the quarterfinals. Facing a team without its far and away best player, Francesco Totti, United stuck Rooney and Park wide, man-marked the wingers and, despite being dominated for long stretches, nicked two goals on the counterattack. Even in the return leg, despite the two-goal lead, United sat back and picked its spots.

They played for results--can't blame them.

bin,
I agree that United's display against Barca was ugly and awfu to watch. Barca were the better footballing team on the night. But to say this is the United way is simply wrong.
Ferguson has been desparate for another European final and he took a leaf out of Rafa's book in my view.

Regardless, I think this is Chelsea's final. I am sure United won't win tomorrow. One goal will decide it though!

Peyman,

I see you have taken the Pabs strategy (hope for the best, expect the worst: "I have a bad feeling about this.").

Manu U has been the best side over the whole CL campaign; it's no gurantee of a win in the final, but I give the edge to United. And I'm rooting for them too.

Pedigree? Sure. But, this built over time concept usually manifests itself as a combination of riches and wins, where the latter often generated the former.

Chelsea conversely is trying to generate wins from riches, and quickly at that. Tomorrow we'll see if Chelsea takes another step towards pedigree. If they get far enough, I'll be there to shake hands with em.

The long ball?
See what I mean about you not watching enough of United's games?
So according to you United beat Roma 7-1 last season thanks to the long ball game? Exactly which of the 7 goals was scored from a long ball!?

I use theat game as an example but there are many others. Most of United's goals this season have come from passing through the midfield, specially in the EPL.

Pabs, I am not as nervous as I was in 99, or even last weekend's last EPL game against Wigan.

I know Chelsea are going to win so maybe that's why.

Once the game begins however, I am sure my blood pressure will rise.

2-1 Man U with Ronaldo scoring the first goal (his first against Chelsea). It will go into extra time. Speaking of which are they starting the match at 22:45 local time? Long night for the Moscuvites.

Lampard ties it up with a minute to go. The teams enter the locker room at 1-1.

87 Giggs (in) - Scholes (out) (Man. United) A historic moment for Ryan Giggs as the winger becomes the all time record appearance holder for United, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 758 matches.

The final whistle is blown. There is nothing to separate the sides at the end of normal time so we will have 30 minutes of extra time.

what a great Final. My team isn't even involved and I'm still filled with so much intensity and emotion. My God, what a beautiful game that was.

I won't even try to disect the game. Just a great display by both side.

Credit to the Lubos Michel for making the correct call on the Drogba red card. He also got the Tevez and Ballack booking right as well. Perfect decision.

God I HATE Cristiano Ronaldo. I'm glad his arrogance let him down. I feel bad for Terry though. On a dry pitch, CFC are Champions.

My sincerest congrat's to Mark, Ali, peyman. I'm envying you guys right about now.

Hey, they should thank their owner, who wanted to gift his KGB boss with a Champions League win in Moscow.

Wembley would be fine with me.

Sir Alex disappointed me with being afraid of Chelski a bit too much, in general, and switching Ronaldo to the left in particular.

Three more points.

1. Lubos Michel is an idiot. What were yellows for both Makelele and Scholes for?

2. Ferdinand should do better than that.

3. I don't like Hargreaves, he destroys a lot, but creates little.

Oh I meant on that particular incident with Drogba slapping Vidic. He did make some small errors like corner kicks. 2 times, possibly 3, with Joe Cole involved.

Let me pout it this way. The folks watching it with me at a little deli inside a market were talking most of the second half and the Extra time. I left at the start at of the 2nd half of ET. I have been known to watch games at the park til dusk. It was a very everyday game. Not a game worthy of the CL final. The ESPN Deportes announcers felt the same way. It had 2 or 3 moments of excitement, the rest was a wrestling match.
