Is that the answer to my question?

If so, my question still stands. How do you arrive at your conclusion? In my book, there are not 191, but 315 possible outcomes for the Quarterfinal and semifinal draw combined (or 8!/2 = 20160, if we take homefield advantage into account).

Man Up for Man U

Postby Romanista40 on 26 Mar 2008, 02:53

Not many teams playing in Europe get to face eachother in this stage exactly one year later and Romanisti embrace the opportunity to redeem themselves so soon. It could have been years for such an opportunity and years to carry that horrible defeat.

Having said that, United are FAR AND AWAY the best team of the final 8. We're banged up and playing the second leg at OT. Plenty to worry about, but my Roma keeps fighting. We won't collapse. There will be no blow out. THAT MUCH I will bet the ranch on.

Keeping United in the low numbers is our only chance and I like the way our defense is shaping up.

Bah.

Maybe they can win one there.

It's probably already fixed, liked the other ones.

I'll take that.

I hate how AF changes formation for European games when the traditional formation looks so comfortable in the league.

And when I saw Park was playing.

Ali

When I saw Park playing I felt an insulting slap in the face. Didn't really matter though, huh? Says alot about a team to get played off the field and still win 2 - 0 on the road. United are just too much too handle at the moment even when you can handle them as we did today.

Really missed Totti, obviously, but I was happy with the effort my boys gave today.

United are better. Plain and simple.

Roma vs ManU

stayed offline all day and just watched the match on a delayed telecast.

Not much to say really. Roma played very good but couldn't find that final pass for much of the night. And then on the 2 times they did, they couldn't bury it. Panucci's miss was bad. At that level you have to put it away. Hell, at least on net. He played well though. ManU started off well in the first 15 minutes and matched Roma with ball possession, but then relented a bit. First goal was good work by Rooney who won his 1v1 battle with Mexes, pass to Scholes. When Scholes floated that ball in there I thought it was wasteful but then CR comes flying in.

At 1-0 Roma still played well but the 2-0 really did them in. They still played positive but you could tell that they didn't have any faith in scoring this night.

As for individual performances, I'm convinced that people either love CR or hate him. His showboating was a bit too much. I think he does it more to show people up rather than be effective. I'm glad that Pizarro planted one on him. He dove a couple of times, I thought. Anderson, nothing more than a shirt-puller (at least tonight). For Roma, Taddei was horrendous. Hindsight being 20/20, they should have played Ludovic Giuly from the start.

For the return, anything's possible, but I don't think Roma will do it.

Roma certainly had their chances. The problem is their porous defense. They just don't have it defensively to win in the CL. They give up too many scoring chances.

To be honest - Roma sucks ! even against mediocre MAnU which we saw yesterday. Without Totti Roma is completely different team - I guess the only fantasista in Roma is Totti. Forget it - ManU is easily first semifinalist.... Second Barca, pretty much routine win against uninspired Schalke....

Chelsea and Arsenal seem to be the next two semifinalists. Although I root for L'pool....

Dezzi - The numbers were even so "played off the field" is just a tad over the top.

As mentioned in the end it came down to Man Utd putting away their chances and Roma not doing so.

Pabs - Love or hat cronaldo nobody can say he's not effective. Leading scorer in the league from a position that although now evolved wasn't meant to put him in the position to score more than anyone else in the league.

I think he means mediocre in regards to last nights performance not in general.

Which is pretty fair. The result was good but it wasn't a great performance if you compare it to the Villa game for example.

Well, in the All-English quarterfinal, only two Englishmen are taking part in the match, both from Liverpool.

Where was Crouch? I missed him thoroughly. Poor Arsenal....Beautiful geometry without firepower...

Arsenal-2008 = Brazil-1982.

P.S. ManU wasn't mediocre, it was spectacular and applied as much effort as was required. No more no less.

I haven't watched Arsenal play this year but if the numbers reflect the way they play, they must be dong quite well if they are compared to Brasil '82. By far the best team of '82.

The Italia game aside, Brasil scored 15 goals and took in 6 for a a GF of 9 compared to Italia that scored`12 goals in 7 games and took in 6 for a 6 goal differential.

Also, Italia only qualified because Cameroon managed to be worse than Italia by scoring only ONE damn goal in the first group stage. Italia scored a miserable 2 goals and took in two.

Let's add the fact that Germany cheated to make it out of the group stage and almost killed the French golie and that Italia almost killed half of the Brasilain squad.

So lets not revise history, Brasil's defense may have made mistakes but it managed to take in only 3 goals in the 4 games prior to them playing the Jogo Bonito against an undeserving Italian side.

That WC final was a fraud played by 2 teams that massacred their way to the final.

You acn't argue with the numbers, plus you were colleting ice chips in '82. You didn't even jack off yet when WC '82 was played.

United had chances to win by a greater margin too - as Ali has already said, the numbers were pretty even. What is it with Roma fans eh :P It has little to do with putting away chances and mostly to do with United being a better team than Roma at this moment in time.

How about that game winner by Deivid de Souza. He ripped that one into the corner. Chelsea did get an away goal but yesterday's result should do little for their confidence.

United is a better team on paper. That being said - they should already be putting away their chances. Roma might be a "lesser team (on paper)," which means they cannot afford to miss when they create those chances. I feel that Roma is close to the Man U level at this moment. That is why they need to put away those chances that they get... wheas Man U creates tons of chances but only puts away a few.

Maybe someone can explain to me how Shevchenko can not find a spot on Chelsea's roster? They said they left Sheva home with a back injury. Just 5 days before that he puts in another one of his great performances for the NT (a goal and an assist against Serbia). The guy has scored a goal in every one of his last four NT outings. And those were not gimmy defenses he scored against: Italy, France, Scotland, Serbia. Yet, apparently, he's either not good enough or not healthy enough for Chelsea?

Eugene,
Chelsea/ EPL isn't the right system for him. He's good with the ball at his feet and he can score from long distance, but his style isn't good in EPL. He comes back to Milan he will have a good season.
