Well, that too after he overcommitted. He gave away his inside and opened the door for Gilardino. He should have forced Gila away from the goal.

Oh well. AC Milan's defensive woes came out yesterday. Ronaldinho had a very good game. Good Serie A debut as he made quite a number of spot-on passes. He has slowed down though.

Caught some of the Juve game. They had good contol throughout the first half. Fiorentina had control of the second half. Juve should have been up 2-0 at the end of the first half but Del Piero missed a sitter.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville

Tiago Locked Juve President Gigli In Washroom!
It has been revealed that it was unsettled Portuguese midfielder Tiago Mendes who locked Juventus president, Giovanni Cobolli Gigli inside a washroom for over an hour.

Talking to Sky Italia, Cobolli confirmed the bizarre rumour about his capture. "The story of me being locked in the toilet by Tiago is true," claimed the Juve President.

"In any case, Alessandro Del Piero responded to the noise I made banging on the door and offered to break it down."

Originally the reports were that Cobolli had been rescued by club captain Del Piero after he had accidentally been locked within the washroom. However, now it's been revealed that was not the case.

Apparently, Tiago is desperate to play in the Champions League and was upset at the Bianconeri president for attempting to push him toward Everton and Monaco who are not involved in Europe's premier competition. Thus, Tiago locked Cobolli in the washroom as a sort of revenge. Rumours suggest that he was locked inside for over an hour before Del Piero heard the patron.

"(Juventus coach) Claudio Ranieri still considers Tiago a part of the squad, but anything could happen tomorrow in Italian football," Cobolli continued to explain. "Hopefully, by midnight Tiago will have found another club."

Tiago certainly has not the best of time since joining Juventus from Lyon for €13 million at the beginning of last season, only making 20 appearances for the Bianconeri. In fact, you may recall Goal.com listed Tiago as the third biggest flop of the 2007/08 season.

WTF ???

shouldn't the police be called and kidnapping charges be pressed ?

Get this idiot out of here. Suspend his ass and sit him for the year or however long it takes. Fucking cretin. What's he upset upset not playing in the CL for anyways ? He's stinks. I doubt he'll even make the starting 11 for a Coppa Gelato game against some C1 side.

markino

Amauri also had a chance to make it 2-0 but missed bad with header. At 2-0 Juve would have never looked back. Instead we kept them in the game and it cost us 2 valuable points.

Trezeguet was injured...

lol@kidnapping. Being locked in a washroom is not a kidnapping.

In other news. Genoa resigned Diego Milito from Zaragoza ( who were relegated last summer).

Chievo have apparently signed Kerlon from Cruzeiro. Palermo is trying to sign Nilmar from Internacional.

Aircal

when Luciano Moggi (ex GM of Juve) locked that referee in the change room a few years back he was originally charged with kidnap.

Remember those teen girls that posted a fight on YouTube about a year ago ? The one where they didn't allow that girl to leave and instead beat her up ? One of the charges in that case was also kidnapping

Trez had inflammation of the knee and was kept back. Sissoko had to serve a suspension. Zanetti is recovering from an injury. Chiellini should be ready in early October.

That is so fucking bizarre. If something similar happended in the US (legal consequences aside), the guy would be bounced out of the league.

Gabriele Marcotti on Serie A:

The buzz has returned to Serie A

Let's not kid ourselves, Serie A is nowhere near returning to the glory days of the early 1990s or even the big spending days of the turn of the Millennium. But, having sunk so far, so fast and having nearly self-destructed thanks to the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal of '06, financial mismanagement, myopic leadership and fan violence, you do get the sense that the league has hit rock bottom and is now on the way back.

Mourinho and Ronaldinho can do their part. But the most important thing will be remembering the mistakes and excesses of the past and steering clear of them.

first off, I had no idea DeSanctis was playing for Galatasaray. WTF ?

At the risk of repeating myself, where is Christian Maggio ? Camo, ADP, Gattuso, Iaquinta ?

This is not funny anymore

This is something Casati and myself have been saying for the last few years.

Serie A was the best for about ten or twelve years. The last five belong to the EPL. La Liga was sandwiched in between.

Things got way out of hand. Sure, Fiorentina, Parma and Lazio owners shot themselves in the foot. It was the beginning of the end. Then Calciopoli happened as the team most screwed, couldn't take it anymore. Too many excesses.

In the end Serie A will rebound but how will it return? To think it will be corruption free is naive.

Let's not forget that they have to get rid of stadium violence in Serie A. They have to make it so that people feel safe attending matches. Just look at the EPL. Any given Saturday watch a match and take note of the fans. They behave like civalized human beings and not the animals you find in Firenze, Roma or Meazza.

That's because they let out all their anger in years past and they priced out the Hoolies. Add the tough laws to it. La Liga has become a 4 team league, the bottom half of the league is pathetic. They could not compete in the MFL.

If I am not mistaken, EVERY seat is assigned (has a number) AND they know exactly who is sitting in that seat. And secondly, you are not allowed to stand. You sit in your seat, period.

Sure if your team scores you stnad up and cheer but otherwise you remain seated.

Fan violence is a major sore spot for Serie A that requires action and the British model is a good example. The coruption, however, will never leave the league, it's just the "system." The days of resting on laurels won't be back for a long time, if ever.

Gee, this makes me feel better.....

Mafia Behind Serie A Violence - Police Chief
The head of the Italian police Antonio Manganelli believes that the violent groups of Ultra’ fans are linked with the various clans of the Mafia.
The announcement comes just days after Napoli fans caused havoc in Rome and Naples and just hours after the San Paolo-based club was handed a fan ban.

The game between Genoa and Milan in week two will also have its doors closed to Rossoneri fans.

Manganelli believes the violence which has soiled calcio’s image once again has deeper links to the Italian criminal underworld.

“We believe that there is an influence of organised crime behind the incidents which happened on the weekend,” said the chief of Police.

“We are launching a major investigation to verify if these incidents are linked to Mafia criminality.”

The head of police in Napoli Antonino Puglisi echoed Manganelli’s concerns and he believes the Camorra (Napolitan Mafia) are behind the ultras, backing them with what they need to cause trouble.

“We are working towards the hypothesis that all the trouble is linked with organised crime and we know that these groups of fans have links with the Napolitan gangs,” added Puglisi.

It’s not the first and it won’t be the last time we hear of violence dominating the Serie A headlines.

The Italian authorities just cannot find a way of dealing with the violence leading to speculation that it is linked with the Mafia.

Fan Bans, Stadium Closures Are Right - Osvaldo
Fiorentina striker Pablo Osvaldo believes the Italian football authorities are right in implementing the fan ban and close stadium doors.
A number of Partenopei hooligans caused trouble on Sunday as they went on a violent rampage in Rome and Naples.

The Italian government was quick to swing into action and the club faces a fan ban for away games for the rest of the season.

The authorities warned that other high risk games will also be subject to stadium closures and Osvaldo believes it’s the right way forward.

“It’s not the best for a footballer but if it needs to be done to avoid the violence we saw on Sunday then so be it,” said Osvaldo.

“Football is fun and a spectacle, it certainly isn’t about what the Napoli fans did over the weekend.

“However, I don’t agree that the club and city should be made to pay for the trouble.”

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was also furious that his side have been punished. The chief even warned that he could quit the game if clubs are made to pay the consequences for the actions of mindless thugs.

After one match into the season, Palermo boss Zamparini sacked coach Stefano Colantuono after losing to Udinese 3-1. Davide Ballardini replaces Colantuono. Apparently, Zamparini was not convinced that the coach could carry the team. He has now fired 27 coaches during his time at Venezia and Palermo. Palermo has the talent to be a competitive side. But will never get anywhere with that owner.

WCQ'fier versus Cyprus

Big day for internationals tomorrow. Practically every NT is playing all around the world. First round of games for UEFA teams.

Well, the team is in Cyprus. Anything less than 3 points and I will be very bitter.

At Coverciano, the new badges for current WC champion was presented. Blatter was present. Some pics

I didn't see the match but I've read that Italia suffered a bit but offensively and defensivley. We had a 1-0 lead and then Cyprus tied it up. If not for DiNatale at the 92nd minute we would have went home with a draw.

Same ol, same ol for Italia in September. It's not an excuse. Afterall... we were playing against Cyprus for crying out loud. We should have smoked them by at least 3 goals. Instead we struggled to win and a 2-1 win at that.

A win is a win. I will take the 3 points. Lippi had to substitute two of his starting defenders in the first 20 minutes. Gamberini looks to have suffered a sever shoulder separation. Gilardino missed some easy chances. The team may not have played its best but it never quit.

First off, PHEW !!!

I bloody hate these games. I just knew we were going to suffer. ARGH, I hate this crap.

But I did not see the match. I went into work. Did RAI even broadcast it ? My uncle was supposed to tape the match but when I went to his house to pick up the tape he said that it wasn't on RAI. Is the old guy losing it or did RAI even show it ?

Thank God though. 3 point in the bag and hopefully this serves as a wakeup call.
