Sorry I took to liberty of starting a new thread for the olympics. Since there is now all sorts of news coming out right now, heading into the games. I am looking forward to this a lot but especially for the gymnastics. I love that sport. :)

Speaking of which, here is a list of youtube vids from the DOHA gym meet.

About 8 members of the Cuban U-23 team has defected during a tournament in Miami. They should have at least waited until the tournament is over.

that happened last week after the USA game, which BTW, tied Cuba 1-1.

Last night, Guatemala beat Mexico 2-1 and Haiti, oh mighty Haiti, beat Canada 2-1.

Mexico will be watching the Olympic games. On TV. Guatemala and Canda advance to the semis where Canada will play the USA and Guatemala will play Honduras. In a blatant case of dishonor, Guatemala allowed Canada to beat them 5-0. Mexico fell short of the needed 6 goals. It beat Haiti 5-1.

All they have to is beat the USA Thursday. Whoever wins the mathc will go to China. Same for Guatemala. All they have to do is beat Honduras.

yeah I read that today in the local paper. How the hell did Canada lose to Haiti ?

Canada is in tough against the US. The US should win. Canada would have served themselves better and avoided the US.

It's funny. Half the people are glad because they think it means Ego Sanches will get fired. Also, people expected this. The U23 team had been playing poorly all along. I have mixed feelings about it. I wanted the Tri to go to the Olympics.

Maybe in four years. Although the Mexican side would have had an advantage in Beijing if they trained at the Azteca. Their lungs would be conditioned to the air pollution.

yeah here we go. Here's the CRAPPY video of the First Haitian goal.

Gee, whatta we have here ? Canuck player kicks the ball out of bounds because of a clear injury to Canadian player so this player can recieve treatment (Haiti player hits Canadian in face).

Instead of giving the ball back, the Haitians walk in and score. Practically unchallenged.

Ah well. What do you expect when your ancestors are French slaves and you live in the worst country in the Western Hempishere (documented FACT) and go up against honest, but naive, Canadians.

Still, there was plenty of time to react. The ball was played across the penalty area before the goal was scored. Once you figure out the assholes were not going to sportsmen, you get back to playing.

Kouchner Backtracks on Olympics Boycott

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: March 19, 2008
Filed at 9:32 a.m. ET

PARIS (AP) -- France's foreign minister backtracked from comments suggesting he is open to a boycott of the Beijing Olympics' opening ceremonies, saying Wednesday that some economic decisions must be made ''at the expense of human rights.''

Bernard Kouchner on Tuesday said the idea of skipping the Aug. 8 opening ceremony to punish China for its crackdown on protests in Tibet was ''interesting'' and ''less negative than a general boycott'' of the Olympics. But by Tuesday evening, he told France-2 television: ''We're not in favor of it.''

On Wednesday, Kouchner told RMC radio and BFM television that the boycott was not a bad idea. But ''it seems unrealistic,'' he said. ''There are a lot of good ideas that can't be put into practice.''

''When you're dealing in international relations with countries as important as China, obviously when you make economic decisions it's sometimes at the expense of human rights,'' he added. ''That's elementary realism.''

Violent protests in Tibet, the most serious challenge in almost two decades to China's rule in the region, are forcing human rights campaigners to re-examine their approach to the Aug. 8-24 games.

Kouchner's original comments helped propel the idea. The president of the EU Parliament, Hans-Gert Poettering, also said politicians should consider staying away from the ceremony if violence continues in Tibet.

In Wednesday's radio interview, Kouchner, the former leader of aid group Doctors Without Borders, said he hoped the situation would ease. But he said human rights could not always be the main consideration in international relations.

''Honestly it's very nice to talk about human rights, I've spoken about them all my life and I will continue to speak about them,'' Kouchner said. ''But there are two sides to the coin.''

But it was free kicks that did Canada in. The first one was a mistake by the keeper. The second, it was well placed. Give Adu credit for that. Still think he is overrated.

A tip bit about the squat type toilets in Beijing.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080319/od_ ... eypsbtiBIF

Now here is some tips on how to use those things...

Rule One: Exhaust all other possibilities.

If you are truly in need and condemned to use the squat toilet, comfort yourself with the knowledge that you are several thousand miles from friends and family. No one has to know

snip...

Assume a squatting position like a competitive ski jumper. Stick your ass out like a whore in a 50 Cent video. This is a good time to pretend you're not a miserable tourist with your pants around your ankles, squatting over a barbaric poo hole.

snip...

For the penised: Use your left hand to aim it away from your trousers and underpants. Point it backwards between your legs - as if it were a rocket engine designed to propel you far away from this alien hellhole
.

Football at the Beijing Olympics

Draw is April 20

15 of 16 berths have been decided, with one more African berth to be decided this month. The qualifiers thus far by region:

AFC: China (hosts), Australia, Japan, South Korea
CAF: Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, (one more berth to TBD)
UEFA: Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Serbia
CONCACAF: USA, Honduras
OFC: New Zealand
CONMEBOL: Brazil, Argentina

The last spot TBD by Africa will be either Nigeria or Ghana. If Nigeria beats South Africa on Wednesday, they are qualified. If they draw or lose then Ghana is the final team.

Very stiff competiton to win the Gold Medal. There are no pushover teams here. Maybe Honduras, but if they were take advantage of the 3 +23 rule and bring a guy like David Suazo it could help them out. New Zealand should go 3 and out. Other than these 2, and it's pretty much a wide open competition.

None of the four UK nations are allowed to take part in the Olympic football tournament (except for 2012), because the UK competes as a whole in the Olympic Games, but separately in football.

Participation in the Olympic football tournament would jeopardize Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland's future as independent footballing nations.

Just to educate shit-for-brains (Palo), England did actually qualify for the 2008 Olympics by reaching the semi-finals of the 2007 UEFA Under-21 tournament, but as I explained above, they are not eligible to participate.

Your inferiority complex continues to amuse me, however, Palo, so carry on with your ignorant statements. Perhaps Mexico will achieve something noteworthy in this millennium, and then you won't be such a bitter old fool?

PS: at this present moment, Mexican football fans are probably worse than EPL fans for bad behaviour.

Good for Mexico but life in the USA has been pretty good for my people here for 400 years.
Unlike you, we lived here in peace and did not exterminate millions of natives in the name of God's destiny.

Nor did we bring exotic disease with us like your staving, rejected, scurvy carrying invaders. Go suck on John Smith, pinko.
