Russia's Ksenia Semenova won gold at last year's gym worlds. The only Russian to so.
Image

America's reigning world champion Shawn Johnson
Image

American Nastia Luikin is also expected to do well.
Image

Paul Hamm is the currently olympic champion, and will defend his title in Beijing.
Image

current men's world AA gold medalist Fabian Hambuchen
Image

left to right, current world champion Fabien Hambuchen, Maxim Deviatovsky, Yuri Ryazanov

Deviatovsky was in the running for an AA medal but fell which took him out of the running. He was so angry with himself, Deviatovsky stormed out of the arena which is forbidden under FIG rules. It was a surprise that Russia was not penalised for that. But he was suspended from the national team. Isabelle Severino of France is also out of the Olympics because of a broken foot. An injury she got during the Euros. The US and Cina are expected to fight for the gold medals in all categories i Beijing. But I could not tell you anything about the Chinese teams. Their turnover is so high, I am just unable to keep up But He Kexin is expected to win gold on the bars, she scored 17.000 recently which is one ofthe highest scores by a woman so far under this new scoring system. For Romania, Steliana Nistor and Sandra Izbasa are the best gymnasts they have so far, but the Romanians may challenge for bronze.

More protests in Seoul against China's policies. This time protestors are also protesting China's repatriation of North Korean defectors.
But once again there was thousands of pro-China demonstrators, apparently they are Chinese students and residents waving huuuuuge Chinese flags.

BOOO: Chinese authorities prevented US Winter Olympics gold medalist Joey Cheek, a leading advocate for an end to violence in the Sudanese province of Darfur, from traveling to the Games.

BRAVI: The US team selected a refugee from the Darfur conflict to be their flag-bearer at Friday's opening ceremony.

The women played yesterday and the men this morning. Italy defeated Honduras 3-0 with goals from Giovinco, Rossi (PK) and Acquafresca (PK). The US edged Japan 1-0. Brazil eked one out against I forget. Don't remember the other results.

Did not someone volunteer to put together a prediction competition? I guess a bit late now.

some close games there today if we go by the scores. I guess we put the two SA giants on a pedestal that if they don't win by 2 or 3 every game it's a let off.
