Back to the olympics:

Doping... funny. As if anybody wasn't on doping... Doping makes the difference in very few cases, doping can't replace training and talent. There is an huge advantage if somebody get's the newest wonderdrug before the rest, see the Gewiss Ballan Team that made ok riders like Furlan, Bobrik and Berzin into topstars... for a year, a year later everybody had EPO and the playing field was level again. Not sure what Ma's army took exactly in 93, but certainly wasn't the usual stuff either. Bolt is on doping, sure, but so are the rest, unlikely that he has better medical help than the others, and if he has it will show already next year... if the rest then catches up, ok, he was faster in getting a new drug than the rest.

Just google Angel Heredia for more on doping...

Usain Bolt!!!

Simply incredible. This guy is miles ahead of the competition. Two WR at 21 years of age is very scary.

I hope the US media is happy now. He gave it a gallant effort and crushed Michael Johnson's record!!!

BTW shame on NBC for not showing it live. They rather show a semifinal event in Volleyball ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

captain,

your comments regarding Bolt taking drugs are rubbish...for your knowledge, Usain Bolt has been controled 3 times already in this games and most important, when Bolt was 15 years old, he was running the 200 meters 20"03....that speaks fot itself

Onze... keep dreaming.

Tested 3 times? Again, google for Angel Heredia. Has nothing to do with Bolt btw, it has to do with sports. Of course if you prefer to keep dreaming about clean sports no need to read anything.

Bolt doped? Yes. His opponents clean? No, nobody at this level is clean. Does that bother me? Not really to much, they are grown man, they can make decisions for themselves. And doping really is only illegal sports medicine. And the result would be the same if everybody was clean. Exceptions like the one mentioned before always can happen, but usually the preparation is roughly the same for everybody.

Isn't it curious how the American, Michael Phelps is never mentioned in cheating speculation? But a Jamaican is?

Of course Phelps is doped too... and off course if you're in the US Phelps wont be mentioned, or at least not too much. Same as Germany only Armstrong ever was suspected as a doper, not Ullrich, same as in Switzerland all the swiss are clean but others are suspicious, same in every country in the world.

Is that so? Over here, the two are typically mentioned in the very same breath when it comes to this subject.

Valid point.

Naturally, some nations have a better anti-doping system than others. Jamaica's anti-doping legislation is non-existent, and it does make a difference how often you can expect to be tested in training.

I am of course referring to the US media. My long running beef with US sports reporters.

They are an Island unto themselves, even in WORLD events such as the Olympics & World Cup.

I can't wait for the new critizisms they will come up with now for Usain Bolt.

So far after the 100M we have: "he didn't run all the way", "we hope he is clean", "he's show boating too much"

I call it a good decision which is in line with the Word of God.

BTW, just for the record, the guy revocated was a deacon, not a priest, and the Church in question was indeed the Catholic Church.

Btw, I need to correct myself. The guy was indeed a priest. As a consequence of his blessing a gay union, he was stripped off his office of dean (not deacon). But he will continue to serve as a priest.

As a french catholic born, I don't give a damn about the bible. You should know better about your closest neighbour, France....back in 1901 we had the separation of the state & the church.France is a secular country !!!

my last questions : Can you explain to me why the church doesn't allow the use of condoms, abortion, gay people etc etc ?

Well, at least you say "Catholic born", not "Catholic". Frankly, I am sick and tired about people claiming to be Christians solely because they were/are members of some church, even when they give a sh*t about what Christ really teaches. So, thank you for not doing the same...

You should know better about your closest neighbour, France....back in 1901 we had the separation of the state & the church.France is a secular country !!!

It's not like there are no French people who are true believers in Christ...

Secular doesn't mean that individuals can't believe in God, or even the authority of the Catholic Church, even though this is the case with you personally.

my last questions : Can you explain to me why the church doesn't allow the use of condoms, abortion, gay people etc etc ?

You'd need to be more specific than "etc etc" to give me a chance to explain. In any case, the answers to your questions can be found in the Catholic Catechism.

BTW, I am not Catholic myself, and I don't agree with the Catholic Church on everything (e.g. I fail to see how the use of condoms contradicts God's word).

yeah, the Olympics just aren't worth getting up at 2 a.m. every night - even when Germans have realistic chances to win gold, as in this case. (Although the other German, the one who finished 6th, would have been considered a more serious medal contender - being the defending world champion and all) I've missed not only the triathlon, but almost all swimming contests as well. Which is a pity as Germany won the women's 50m and 100m...

BTW, as far as I am concerned, yesterday's highlight was Matthias Steiner's weightlifting triumph. That competition was incredibly intense.

I made a huge error last night. I stayed up to watch the Italy vs Poland Volleyball 1/4-final match. I went to bed at 2:45 because it went to the 5th set. I paid for it today at work. I am absolutely dead tired right now.

But tonight I will have a little break as I will go to bed at 1am. They are showing the Canada vs Jamaica WCQ'fier on tape delay starting at 2300 (it's being pre-empted for baseball of all things). If I knew any better I would have went to the match as it's been played here in Toronto.

Alleged Double Standard

surinami: to be honest, I haven't heard people suggest the Bolt is doping. If only because I think they are so used to it that they are de-sensitized. And even if Phelps isn't getting the whispers behind his back like Usain Bolt is, it's because doping is much more common in T&F as opposed to Swimming.

Case in point, not more than 2 minutes ago I read that the Silver Medalist of the Female Heptathalon has been stripped of her medal. I remember watching this and seeing the Ukrainians finish 1-2. It turns out this is her SECOND violation in 5 years. Where's the 2004 Gold Medalist Justin Gatlin ? Marion Jones ? Yep, both serving suspensions and in the case of Marion Jones jail time. I have never heard of a swimmer get caught for doping.

200M Final

as expected the CBC re-showed this race. I expect NBC to do so around 10pm. Right before the gynmastics gala which I'm pretty sure they'll show between 11-12.

Obviously very impressed by Usain Bolt breaking the WR in the process. And to think that he did so with a +0.9 HEAD Wind. I repeat, give this guy a 2.0 M/s tail wind and a bit of altitude and he'll destroy record by a few 10th's of a second.

Interesting comments he made to Canadian TV after the race. He said that after the 100M Final, he knew he had to go for the WR in the 200M because this is a very fast track. When asked about the criticisms he's recieved by Ato Boldon & Frankie Fredricks, he genuinely said that he hadn't heard. Then he was told that they were amongst the people criticising him for slowing down. He almost seemed tired of hearing it. He said that he celebrated 15M from the end because he was just so excited that he was going to become Olympic champion. He said that he wasn't thinking about WR's at the time. Also stated that during the year on the circuit is when records are made to be broken. At the Olympics the objective is to win the Gold Medal.

Anyways going back to the race, they did a breakdown of his race. He really did try until the end as he is seen grimacing all the way until the end. They also illustrated that not only does he have straightaway speed but he actually pulls away during the turn.

As for ther others, it was funny to see the 2nd and 3rd place finishers (Wallace Spearmon & Churandy Martina) celebrate with flags, laugh and dance after the race. Only to be told that they BOTH were disqualified for stepping on the line. I saw the video of Spearmon being told. Gotta feel bad for the guy.

NBC are simply idiots.

In this internet age it simply does not make sense to "withold" the result of auch a worldclass final, knowing that it will be all over the net!

They could brake away from the semifinal game for 5 minutes.

Keep in mind that NBC has about 5 channels to broadcast here: NBC, USA, MSNBC, CNBC & Telemundo(i believe NBC owns them)

The one thing that is really scary is that they put up the time that Usain Bolt ran in the 400M a few years ago, and he was only .20 behind Michael Johnson's top time!!!

His specialty is the 200M though.

Anyway, IMO they should simply can all the sports where points judges produce the results: gymnastics, pair swimming, water jumping, dressage, and so on.

U.S. women did the same, drop the baton in the last leg. It is a difficult thing to do in relays and something that has to be practiced. Wondering if it was taken for granted.

LOL

The one event where both the men & women track team had a real chance for gold and they blow it?

It is heartbreaking but inexcusable. Quite a few DQ's. Might be some more in the finals as well.

2 runners in the men's 200 were DQ'd as well. the 2nd & 3rd place, Mrtines & Spearmon. That is so heartbreaking. 4 years of hard work & sacrifice and then nothing. OUCH.

Lolo Jones stumbled over a hurdle while she had the gold practically sealed and finished out of the medals.
