The IOC gestapo must have full time people scowering cyberspace for video of the Olympics. Everything has been removed in a just a few hours.

What are you talking about tronche. It hasn't happened yet. According to NBC, the official Olympics network, it's scheduled for 7:00 my time this evening.

Are you serious onze?

I thought it went on for too long at times... well most of the time. Some stuff good, the lighting of the flame, the world/lantern thing in your second pic, but otherwise... not all that impressed.

You mean the opening ceremony is not taking place at 7:00 am Chinese time?

To be honest, I don't understand why NBC did not show it live on the Today Show and then repeat it tonight for prime time.

I have to agree with the Frogger, I watched it 7:00 a.m PDST via Mexican TV and it was awesome. Where do they find so many Chinese that glow in the dark? I am glad didn't give in to the BS and attended the ceremony. Bravo Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He is my president. Eve though he didn't really win in 200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here in Canada they showed it LIVE in the AM and then replayed it starting at 7pm for Prime Time.

It was wierd because during quick breaks they would go to the guy in the CBC Beijing studio and he would be saying it is Saturday Morning and the first events will be starting soon and proceeded to give the schedule for overnight programming, then signed off his segments by saying "lets go back to the Opening Ceremony's from 12 hours ago."

NBC's coverage started a bit later so I tuned into their coverage.

I didn't watch the entire ceremony but mainly the parade of Nations as I wanted to hear the commentary that was made about that particular nation. On both the CBC & NBC it was a lot of political talk. Though NBC did a good job of providing those trivial stats with less known nations. Good rapport between Bob Costas & Matt Lauer. Lauer is way better than Brian Williams from 2006 Winter Olympics who annoyed me to no end.

As for the show itself, the little that I did watch was very good. AS for the torch lighting ceremony, AMAZING. Just when I thought the previous Olympics torch-lighting cannot be surpassed, they suprise me.

That illusion of the guy running while being suspended in the air before he lite the torch was brilliant.

Ovations

I like to pay attention at which nations recieve the big ovations. USA, France & Germany I thought were the 3 big ones. And seems like every Asian nation also recieved big applause. Suprisingly, even Japan. As for single athletes, aside from the Chinese ones, it was clearly Roger Federer.

flagbearers

gotta say that I don't like it how some nations bring a retired athlete or national sysmbol to be the flagbearer of the country.

Like that Central American nation (Iforget which) who brought that boxer that retired something like 15-20 years ago.

It should be a CURRENT Olympian :duh:

one last thing...

when seeing the Parade of Athletes making their way in, the 2 biggest sad-sack-of-shits that are at these Games are:

1. INDIA -- the only other country in the world to have over 1 Billion people and they only qualified about 50-something athletes. If I recall, it was said that they've only won 3 medals in their entire history.

To compare, the only other country with over 1B people is China. They made it's way back to the Olympics in 1984 and qualified about 350 atheltes and have won hundreds of medals.

2. SAUDI ARABIA -- once again, no females allowed on their Olympic team. A small delegate with only males.

Honourable Mention -- United Arab Emerites.

only female on that team is the Prime Ministers daughter. Gee, I wonder if that's a coincidence.

Well, if you want more indians make Cricket an Olympic sport.

As for the opening ceremony....

1 Onze is in big trouble if he ever wants a chinese visa? 4000 years history... 5000, they insist on 5000, anything less is a huge insult!

2 Ok, never been a big fan of opening ceremonies... so probably beterr to ignore my opinion on that one.... I liked the flying thing in LA, for the rest...

Anyway, Switzerland has more medals than Germany! Stop the olympics!!!!!

Cycling Road Race, very intersting last round, didn't think it would play out that way, Italy and Spain man marking eacht other, so Valverde and Bettini stay behind while Rebellin and Sanchez manage to follow A. Schleck... impressive Schleck... but clearly nervous later on, Sanchez talking a lot with Valverde or his teamcar. Rogers and Kolobnev coming back in the last km, with the help of Cancellara who is incredible at times.. IMO Kolobnev could have won if he hadn't led out the whole thing. But interesting race, made hard by the humidity (which IMO is as big a problem as the pollution) and the fact that you can't control a race with 5 riders. Too bad Bettini didn't manage to win his second olympic title... but well, he'll win in Varese for his third World championship.

But great year for Spain

Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Valverde
Giro: Contador
TdF: Sastre (Freire green jersey)
Olympics: Sanchez

Only the Vuelta, World championship and Lombardia missing.

Pabs:

YOu may not now this bit even in the USA, the majority of athletes come from well to do and well connected families. Track and filed are a big exception, as well as basketball because they get sponsored early on.

The Nicaragua flag bearer was Alexis Arguello, I too find it interesting that retired athletes are flag bearerres but that is the spirit of the Olympics. Also, countries like China, Cuba, the old East Germany churn out athletes because they spend huge amounts of resources to develop them, often with "enhancers". Why did the Germans stop wining after the fall of the wall???

yeah I think they will too

I saw bit and pieces of their game today versus China. They completely OWNED China.

As for the other US athletes. Well, I'm not sure what you mean by that. Here's my take. Obviously if you are upper class in the US than you will take up sports like Rowing, Canoeing, etc (ie: the niche sports). And from that you can make your way on to that sports circuit and the Olympics.

It's not they went to the daughter of a CEO of a big company and plopped her in the Olympics.

But they migh as well.

Example:

My daughter swims for the local team in the Summer. because we are not a rich city, the local pool only opens during the Summer months. Johnny Cakes Wasp lives in let's say, Irvine, in Orange County. There parents have enough money to keep the pool open year round and are able to pay the high fees to have their kids join a fancy swim Club. They train almost daily and travel all over for meets. If they're god, they are selected by "Elite Clubs" where they are further developed and taken to places that may land them in the pre-olympic trial etc.

Ask Falc about YSO. Same shit.

I am not alone. Many Americans were put of by the French trash talk. I almost broke my TV it was so exciting. For the first time in a long time, I was proud to be an American.

what's with the KKK ? Is that supposed to mean Canada's racist ? Nah, we have blacks up here. And they repay us by committing murders, rapes, intimidation, assault, burglary

You know, the usual. The same sort of stuff they do in every country they go to.

So anyways, tell me if that's what you meant. I don't want to take you as yet another mizundastoood black man.
