here in Canada they showed it LIVE in the AM and then replayed it starting at 7pm for Prime Time.
It was wierd because during quick breaks they would go to the guy in the CBC Beijing studio and he would be saying it is Saturday Morning and the first events will be starting soon and proceeded to give the schedule for overnight programming, then signed off his segments by saying "lets go back to the Opening Ceremony's from 12 hours ago."
NBC's coverage started a bit later so I tuned into their coverage.
I didn't watch the entire ceremony but mainly the parade of Nations as I wanted to hear the commentary that was made about that particular nation. On both the CBC & NBC it was a lot of political talk. Though NBC did a good job of providing those trivial stats with less known nations. Good rapport between Bob Costas & Matt Lauer. Lauer is way better than Brian Williams from 2006 Winter Olympics who annoyed me to no end.
As for the show itself, the little that I did watch was very good. AS for the torch lighting ceremony, AMAZING. Just when I thought the previous Olympics torch-lighting cannot be surpassed, they suprise me.
That illusion of the guy running while being suspended in the air before he lite the torch was brilliant.
Ovations
I like to pay attention at which nations recieve the big ovations. USA, France & Germany I thought were the 3 big ones. And seems like every Asian nation also recieved big applause. Suprisingly, even Japan. As for single athletes, aside from the Chinese ones, it was clearly Roger Federer.
Muhammad Ali was famously asked “Champ, what did you think of Africa?” to which the Champ replied, “Thank God my granddaddy got on that boat..."
