And that's my #1 complaint about sports in the USA. Only the rich can afford to go to the stadium anymore. If you don't mind siting in the nose bleed sections and you bring your own food and drink it's affordable. Otherwise the average Joe can't afford it.

The ticket prices for next season's Mets and Yankee games (they are both moving to their new stadiums) are incredible. Prices are going up anywhere between 50%-100%. Currently $60 seats at Yankee Stadium will be $112 next season, $20 will be $40, etc. A friend of mine who splits a full season subscription (4 seats @$80 each) will be giving them up because the increase is 90%. Supposedly this is all a part of maximizing sales and for out of towners on vacation to get the full NY experience. Out of towners on vacation don't mind paying $100 seat to go to Yankee Stadium or the new Citi Field. So you'll end up having 75% of the fans attending the game who don't give a rat's arse about the team or worse yet, don't know a thing about the game.

I'm so disgusted with this. I used to go to Shea Stadium for free as a kid. We had to save the Dairylea milk cartons and then send them into the Mets and they would send you back free tickets. It was great. Granted... they were nose bleed seats but as a kid, nobody cared. All we knew was we were going to the stadium for free.

I grew up going to the Upper Deck at Doger Stadium for 4 Bucks and 2 on to see the bottom feeders. I moved up to lower loge Box, advance sale price about 44 Bucks. Before that was field loge for about 32 bucks but yu multiply that Xs 4 and add 20 for parking and 100 for dogs and sodas and a cotton candy for the girls and your out almost 300 bucks for one fucking game.

http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/ba ... ricing.jsp

These were my seqats when they were 44 and if you went in with a season tix holder you could get them for 30 each with parkingt included. Not a bad deal. But that's not the end of it, the new seats behind the dugout, now filled with corporate types and bimbos run you about 600 bucks a pop per game.

I am out of baseball.

I haven't gone to a baseball game in years. I've probably only gone to about 6 in my entire life. A couple of years ago I got a free pair and didn't even go.

NHL tickets are impossible to get here. And if you do get your hands on them, you're going to spend a small fortune.

In the early 90's I used to go to a lot of CFL games. Great atmosphere.

I've yet to go to a TFC game. Though I have seen a few Canada NT games.

Casati,

Me a Cubs fan worry? What would give you that idea? I'm actually enjoying perhaps the best team we've fielded since I can remember (35+ years; maybe '84 was as good). I really like how all the players contribute and you're correct, it's Lou that's pushing all the right buttons. I'm not nervous yet because our pitching continues to be solid and the hitting seems to be back on track. Though if I were you I'd be pulling my hair out. I saw highlights of Saturday's Mets game with Houston and it was another blown win for Santana. OUCH.

Tickets? Well Wrigley is always filled with many out-of-towners. I've still only gone to Opening Day this season. I planned to go when I was off a couple weeks ago, but I couldn't get tickets and I have a excellent connection: It's my buddy who gets handicap seats. We did land three tickets for later this month. I'm taking my son before he starts school. Three tickets, plus parking: $180. They are field box right behind home plate so they are great seats but still that's what it costs before you walk in the door.

3 field box tickets behind home plate for $180? That's a great price. Don't kid yourself.

180 behind home plate? How high? Right behind home plate in L.A is not 400-600 per seat. Yeah, per fucking seat.

And may God forgive me for I have pretended to be physically handicapped at football games, boxing matches and at amusement parks. I have also brought along older women, like my mother-in-law to Disneyland on a wheelchair ( she was really tired) to get to the head of the line. Well, also at the music center to get isle seats.

OK, I have sined many times. This is how you do it. Either buy them in advance and pick them up. They don't ask too many questions. ( Only when you have large parties) But if if its you and a buddy, not much of a problem. But the easiest and safest is to buy any ticket to get you in the game and head to customer relations. Make up a medical condition that warrants handicap access and BINGO, you get tix to the handicap section. God knows that the handicap section at the Rosebowl is superb. Some venues are more accomodating than others. The downside is there are no hot chicks down there but lenty of leg room and often nice clean handicap access, spacious restrooms. :)

I don't remember the cotton uniform one.

My sister broke her ankle some time ago sliding into home plate in a softball game. So she was in cast and crutches for a while and had tickets to a Barenaked Ladies concert. A friend could not make it so I went with her. The pavillion has a seating area in front of the stage and lawn seats behind the seats, which is where my sister and her friends had tickets. One of them called the pavillion for my sister to inquire if there was a spot to drop her off since she was on crutches. They gave her a parking space near the gate and instead of lawn seats, we got to sit on folding chairs behind the back row of the seating area. Not just my sister but all four of us. So it worked out well.

True story - A good friend of mine who is a HUGE NY Mets fan wanted to go to Shea to catch Mets-Yankees for the 2000 World Series.

With no tickets left, he was able to score two for the handicapped section. Didn't know how he was able to purchase them but I do know that he had to rent a wheel chair and used it to get into the stadium to watch the game. His other friend was his assistant so, no wheel chair for him.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville

My friend is a paraplegic. He was robbed and shot in the spine. So there. [j/k I know no disrespect was intended.]

It's not easy but he has seen so many events (World Series, national title games) that he appreciates the opportunities. Opening day this year, I got him interviewed for a documentary being filmed about the Cubs this season. All I did is point him out to the producer.

He's also fairly mobile. After years of dealing with the state, he finally got some tax dollars to convert his van so he now drives. He also has a part-time job downtown. The things that are done for people with disabilities these days is something we can all be proud of. Two generations ago, these people were just pushed in a corner.

They are still playing baseball?

BTW, the reason the Olympics is dropping baseball is because MLB refuses to release its top stars to the game. Could you imagine the number of players that would be suspended for drug doping?

On the softball side, the U.S. women are too dominant. Japan proved that wrong today.

Casati,

A couple weeks ago, I was all high on the Cubs--best team this, great team that. You had said you hoped we'd sweep the Phillies. We took the first two games but began our longest losing streak of the season after that. As it turns out the Mets go into Milwaukee and sweep the Brewers. Thanks for that!

I hope all you East coast guys had no problems over the weekend with Hanna. My uncle and aunt went to NYC for a wedding Saturday. The couple was to be married on a cruise to the Statue of Liberty, which was called off due to the weather. The couple ended up getting married in a hotel conference room. I could hear the refrain from here: "It was good luck."

Billy Wagner is not only out for the remainder of this season but he will be out for the 2009 season too. I'm not too worried since his performance since early June has been atrocious. Plus we're 22-11 since he went on the disabled list. But I will say that if the Mets don't win the NL East it will be because of the weak bullpen with or without Wagner.

BTW... what's this crap I keep hearing about Lance Armstrong doing the TdF next year?...

Breaking down the National League stretch run

Breaking down the Cubs and their three main competitors' remaining three weeks:

CUBS
Home: 6 (51-24)
Road: 13 (35-33)
vs. teams .500 or above: All 19 of them
Rec. vs. remaining opp.: 19-17
Days off: 1
Key series: Sept. 22-25 in New York
Advantage: 41/2-game lead with 19 remaining means it's theirs to lose.
Disadvantage: Brutal final stretch with every opponent fighting for something.

BREWERS
Home: 8 (43-30)
Road: 10 (39-32)
vs. teams .500 or above: 10
Rec. vs. remaining opp.: 22-15
Days off: 2
Key series: Sept. 16-18 at Wrigley Field.
Advantage: Control fate with 6 vs. Cubs; two days off to keep pitchers fresh.
Disadvantage: Seven straight on the road against Phillies and Cubs.

METS
Home: 12 (42-27)
Road: 7 (38-36)
vs. teams .500 or above: 7
Rec. vs. remaining opp.: 22-19
Days off: 1
Key series: Sept. 22-25 vs. Cubs at home
Advantage: 6 vs. the Nationals; 12 home games.
Disadvantage: Four against the Cubs will be no easy chore.

PHILLIES
Home: 12 (40-29)
Road: 6 (39-36)
vs. teams .500 or above: 9
Rec. vs. remaining opp.: 23-19
Days off: 2
Key series: Sept. 11-14 vs. Milwaukee at home
Advantage: Final 12 games against East opponents far out of race, including final six at home.
Disadvantage: No more games against the Mets.

The NY Mets collapse is well under way. They have dropped 3 of their last 4 and guess who's to blame? That's right! It's their weak bullpen. So far this season their bullpen has blown a league leading 29 save opportunites.

Will this be the last week of baseball ever @ Shea Stadium? You guys still have the wild card. Milwaukee has choked big time and doesn't look to recover. The Cubs are in town for 4 games starting tonight; I say they split the series and it will go down to the last weekend in the East. I hope we get you guys in the NLDS.

Bye, Bye, Yankee Stadium.

The Mets don't have a bullpen. How can you let the Braves beat you twice this past weekend with come from behind victories?

I've been saying it since the end of July: The Mets will NOT make the playoffs.

I spent some good times at Yankee Stadium. The best was the Jim Abbot no hitter. That was something else.

Does anyone know when the old stadium is scheduled to implode? I guess it will become a parking lot?

No one knows when it will come down. The city will be accepting demolition bids in Jan. 2009 and the plans are for it to be completed by mid April 2009. I know many Yankee fans and even they don't know what will happen to the city property after it's demolished. My guess is that since the site of the new stadium (it's right accross the street from the old stadium on 161 STREET) used to be a play ground with a couple of ball fields that the site of the old stadium will become a play ground with ball fields. If you recall that area of the Bronx, it's very densely populated with many low income apartment buildings. They could use all the city parks they can get.

Yeah, Shea Stadium is next.

This is all sad to me. It really is. I still remember the first time my father took me to Shea back in 1972 and then all the other times. He was good with that, as we'd go to Shea at least two times per year.

I still remember when Yankees Stadium closed down for two years with renovations for the 1974 & 1975 seasons. Heck, I remember opening day 1976 when the Yankees returned to Yankees Stadium. I am not a Yankees fan and I remember watching it.

Plenty of memories in those stadiums for New Yorkers. Some of them very good and some of them bad.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville
