Haile Gebrselassie says because of fears polution in Beijing will effect his asthma, he will not be running in the Olympic marathon. But will compete in the 10,000m race instead.

That's a real shame, because I think he's probably too old to win the 10k title now. He's been eclipsed in recent years by better long-distance runners, including one from his homeland (Kenenisa Bekele).

agente,

Kallur? Well most people doesn't look too pretty captured at pictures in a moment like that. There's several where she looks considerably better and she have some modeling for clothes companies as well (no, not fancyunderwear as what I know of). But I do get some of the mockery from Arcadic and Genie though about the hysteria over doping that is so significant in for instance Sweden. Both Kallur and Anja Persson is for instance sponsored by Vattenfall, a swedish energycompany which basicall all people in Sweden have agreements with since they hold most of the distributioncables. Hence arguably both Kallur and Persson is to some part sponsored with money that is dervied from criminal activities such as for instance illegal drug sales (even criminals require electricity for their homes and premises). Add to it that one of the former boardmembers at Vattenfall (who also had some security problem at one of their nuklear plants in Germany) once was a professional misinformation distributor placed at the foreign ministry (that one especially for the hypycrites that whine about whatever especially some other countries practices).

Just something for those extreme "hardliners" aginst whatever crimes that happens to be on the fashion spot for the moment.

But sweden have quite a great propórtion of succesful people considering the population though, not only in sports but also in sciense. A funnier and somewhat odd thing I saw recently when I watched a TV show about lesisure safety with former football player Klas Ingesson among others, was a swedish woman, Marianne Eriksson, who won a bronze medal in the world championships in chainsaw handling in Ohio in 2006.
They showed clips from it and she said she had sharpened the chain wrong and missed at some parts in the competition because the american wood is faster growing and thus way softer than what she's used to. but she won the precision part where that were to take down a high pine tree which had a squared board placed on top and was supposed to go down within two bars placed with about one meters distance between them.
AND IT WAS JUST BEAuTIFUL...the damn tree fell in the middle and the board got the stick that was supposed to hit it right in the "bulls eye"!!!

And she didn't look too big or something while she was around old lumberjacks and younger ones that obviously had spent a lot of time building muscles that they've tanned and greased up for the occasion. The protective gearment looked almost a bit oversized at her. A lot of her competitors didn't even get the trunk between the bars.

Just to be clear, my comments congratulating Kallur and Swedish athletes were sincere, and I made no reference to doping. I follow track and field quite closely, and have no reason to suggest Swedish athletics has a doping problem.

Spitzer looks almost like Flea's brother born in the ugly tree and hit every branch on his way down at this picture though (from that aspect one could sort of understand he'd have to pay for it, even if it's not about those mechanisms inprostitution - for the most part).

Serbian swimmer Milorad Cavic has been suspended for the rest of the European championships for wearing a T-shirt proclaiming 'Kosovo is Serbia' at a medal ceremony in the Netherlands. The European swimming league ruled that the shirt worn by Cavic as he collected gold for the 50-meter butterfly on Wednesday constitutes a clear political action. 'As a consequence, the panel has decided to suspend Milorad Cavic from further participation in individual events'. The Serbian swimming federation also was fined 10 800 dlr.

Well I'm hoping anyway. Rain may get me wet today but it won't dampen my spirit. A guy can hope, especially on Opening Day. After all if Juve can play in Serie B once every hundred years, I can expect my favorite baseball team to win a World Series championship once in that time frame.

hehehe You suck.

Aside from the fact the Cubs lost and the weather sucked, I had a really good time at the game yesterday, from the guy walking a goat down Clark street to seeing Hank Aaron and Willie Mays there in honor of Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks. BTW: Jesse Jackson was there too and he, like POTUS Bush on Sunday night, was soundly booed.

It took all of 10 seconds before I saw some Japanese fans at the stadium. Aside from Ernie Banks, the biggest applause of the day went to Fukudome, who had a great game, 3 for 3, 3 RBI.

I also talked a film crew doing a documentary on the Cubs centenary losing season to interview my friend, who was reluctant at first but I twisted his arm and he gave a good interview.

As for the game, a major disappointment as our new closer gave up three runs in the 9th, which started when he beaned a Brewer in the back. AAAaaaRRRRRRrrrrrRRRAARARARARAR

1 down 161 to go.

Bineaz

Your boys GOTTA find a way to keep all that "100 years of pain" crap out of that locker room as well as all the "favorites to win the division" speculation. The skipper will make sure the latter is dealt with, but the 100 yr thing is too big too soon. You guys are real contenders this year. Don't need that extra pressure.

Hey, I've always said this (as most Card fans have): If it's not us, then it's the Cubbies. That's what makes our rivalry a little more special than the rest.

LMAO

dezzi,

Lou is very conscious of the 100 year hype (just see two recent articles in the NY Times and Boston Globe) and has told the players they are only repsosnible for what happens this season. As for being favorites, we didn't play like that yesterday.

Toronto was rained out in NYY.

I'm predicting yet another 3rd place finish in the AL East. Pitching is there but not so sure about our aging offense.

Well, am out of baseball. The Dodgers added more seats. As a result my old 22 Dollar seats are now double that. 150 bucks for a ball game is too much for me. I can get a hooker for 20 minutes for that and have money left over for a slurpee at 7-11 or Quckie Mart.

Last Opening Day at Yankee Stadium

after last nights PPD game because of rain, I guess tonight was actually the home opener. Yankees barely win 3-2. When Metallica's "Enter Sandman" plays and Mariano Rivera comes on to close the game, you know it's pretty much a done deal.

like I said, I can't expect us to finish above 3rd with Boston and NYY ahead of us.

That is a funny story. They should dock his pay for damages.

Trost said that the Yankees were speaking with the Bronx district attorney’s office about whether there was any criminality involved in the act and that the team was considering filing charges against the construction worker, identified by The Associated Press as Gino Castignoli, a Bronx resident.

“We take great pride in hiring Bronx residents,” Levine said. “He abused the privilege.”

Like many of the workers at the site, Gramarossa said he was a big Yankee fan. “A lot of construction workers are proud of this job and were upset it was in there,” he said.

Pabs - yes I have. My analysis on the Rangers-Devils:

1) The Rangers, 5 on 5, are a much better team than the Devils
2) Martin Brodeur let Sean Avery get to him
3) Martin Brodeur is a schmuck for letting Sean Avery get to him and a dope for not shaking Avery's hand at the end of the seires. You would expect more from a 3 time Stanley Cup winning netminder and future hall of famer.
4) What Sean Avery did to Martin Brodeur (standing in fornt of him during a 5 on 3 power play waving his stick and purposely obstructing Brodeur's view of the puck) was bush league and I don't condone nor will attempt to defend it. Even without the league's new rule, I felt the referee should have called a 2 minute unsportsmanlike conduct on Avery. 20 years ago, Avery would've gotten tattooed by the resident Devil goon, 5 on 3 or not.

The Rangers have what it takes to win the cup but so do 7 other teams. Any team can beat any other team on any given day. That's how flat this league is. Next up is the Penguins and quite frankly I'm not feeling as good about facing the Penguins as I did about facing the Devils.

Agreed. In the 70's & 80's Avery wouldn't have even thought of doing this because he knew he would have been thrashed. Now the game has changed and players KNOW they can get away with it.

Nah, Brodeur was correct in what he did. Shaking his hand would have legitimized Avery's actions. Make no mistake about it, Avery will get clocked one day.

You are right. First game that Avery steps on the ice against the Devils this fall and he will have to answer to the Devils enforcer. Guaranteed.

The league has changed with the instigator rule. But one thing hasn't changed: hockey players NEVER forget. Sooner or later, they will get even.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville

The way I see it is you leave it on the ice. I remember so many bench clearing brawls during the playoffs back in the 70s. Guess what? After the series was over they all shook hands. Didn't matter that they were literally pummeling each other earlier. You shook hands at the end of the series.

I remember Gerry Cheevers netminder for the Boston Bruins for all those Stanley Cup playoffs under Don Cherry back in the 70s. He refused to shake hands at the end of the series won or lost. What a dick. If Piere Bouchard could shake hands with Stan Jonathan (Jonathan pummeled him in one game) then I think Cheevers can get over himself and shake some hands.
