Postby Falc on 23 Jun 2006, 08:57

After today, the tournament truly begins. It is do or die. No excuses. We will use this thread to discuss the second stage of the WC all the way to the finals.

Yes, let's stick to one thread. Why do we need to jump around from one thread to another when at this point, the tournament gets smaller and smaller in the number of participants?

Not a bad idea.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville

Well all is not yet decided so let's see you will accompany the 12 already qualified. Looks like France may go out in the knock out stage again.

Actually, 13 are decided. Spain is already through. So there are 3 spots left. But this thread is for the knockout stage that begins tomorrow. And France, if eliminated today, will be knocked out at the group stage.

Everyone seems to see us as the underdogs against Germany. While it might be true that Germany are favourites, I only see them as slight favourites and that is mainly because of the home team advantage. We have been disappointing so far, but still got through with out much problem. Comparing the roosters I'd say that Sweden have players with more experience, that play in bigger clubs and that have won major titles compared to a rther inexperienced German team.

Since Ibrahimovic seems to be fit on saturday I think we stand a good chance against Germany.

Glenn - It'll be a good game, and it's true that nobody seems to give your lot the kind of respect they deserve.

I expect Germany to go through but it certainly won't be a shock if Sweden beat them.

it wopuld be good for Mexico

Postby agentesecreto on 23 Jun 2006, 13:25

I'd much rather play a hated Sweden side than the host with the momemtum of the quarters. I expect Mexico to beat Argentina. Trust me, they're not Brasil or Germany. I watched all of their games and I am not shaking. We wil deliver their ass on Saturday and I hope Sweden Does its job.

I too expect Germany to get through, but I think people are seriously overrating them. It becomes ridicoulus when Podolski/Klose are considered better than Larsson/Ibrahimovic. England is far better than Germany and if we could keep them at bay Germany is most certainly a possibility.

I'd say that Sweden got more experienced players but lack the depth that Germany has.

Well said, Glenn. I don't think Germany has much over Sweden in terms of talent, and like you say, your front-line is much more skillful. If it wasn't for Larsson, Barcelona would not even have won the CL.

The problem is that Germany have home advantage, and that counts for a lot :(

Sweden are seriously underrated.

Germany Vs Sweden

You have to think Germany to advance. Unless Sweden can get Ibrahimovic going, I don't think they can afford to keep trying their luck at finding last minute goals. Add to that their suspect defence. Gotta go with Germany.

Argentina Vs Mexico

Unless Mexico discover their form they showed against Iran and not play like they did against Angola, this game should be Argentina's. The Argentines seem to be a bit more humble this time and Crespo is quick to point out that they have not achieved anything just yet.

You have to go with Argentina based on pedigree and what we've seen so far. Add to that Mexico have some trouble in this round.

Forza 2 red cards for Argentina and 3 penalties for the illegals, so they can at least score 1 :)
