Germany 2006 - Knockouts to the Final

Threads Kept for the Records

No, actually I really do. Australia will do what the other 3 teams have not done to Italy and that is press them. Guys like Materazzi and Pirlo suffer when this happens.

Hiddink knows the Italian team and Italian league very well. He alone is good for half-a-goal.

de Rossi is suspended for four games. I think Australia has a good chance of winning against Italy.

uh-oh what is this I hear on CNN about a clash between English and German fans? It figures that CNN was going to focus on the few negative incident to happen during this WC. :(

Well I'm glad you guys are more confident about Italy than I am, but as I've said all along, the stars have to align perfectly for this to happen. Moreso than other teams.

too old, too banged up, not mentally strong enough, Serie A's in a scandal, you name it.

Lionel Messi turns 19 today, so happy birthday to him. Unfortunately he will be on the bunch so non of his & Tevez's antics on the feild today. Those two can certainly be very entertaining.

Referee: Massimo Busacca (Switzerland).

Another goal for Mexico, but ths time it was own goal. Crespo wants it for himself sayng the ball touched his leg, but it was clear that Borgethi scored an own goal using his head.

1-1 on an own goal but someone explain to me how Crespo was not called for dangerous play.

Penta - They just showed the goal again from another angle. Not only was his leg very high but he was pushing Borghetti. If a defender does this, it is a PK. But strikers get away with it all of the time.

(Guess what position I played?)

Have you noticed that La Volpe wasn´t on the field by the time of the national anthems? and his vibration when Mexico scored? kinda 5% of Pekerman´s vibration with Argentina´s goal.

Great first half. Impressive defense by Mexico.

I need to see the replay of the scene where Heinze got yellow shortly before H/T. IMO he was quite lucky for not being sent off.

all calls correct

- Argentina had another man back there for cover

- Crespo's goal was good and it did indeed go off his right toe, then shin, then in.

La Volpe was trying to avoid the whole Argentine-Mexico thing. He is not known for being overtly emotional over goals. It was quite early. I told you guys we would own them Argentine bitches.

I guess I missed the wedding ceremony.

First half comments

awesome start from Mexico. They put Argentina on the back foot and made them pay. Argentina struggled just to get in the Mexico end.

Now Argentina have played decent, but not great.

This game may very well go to ET's and then PK's like the Confederations Cup semi-final last summer.

I'm a fucking wreck

Postby agentesecreto on 24 Jun 2006, 16:07

I cleaned the back yard and worked out beofre the game. Left during the second half of the Germany game, which was over to get a hair cut. My boy is watching the game with me at home and we';re both going nuts. I am typing just to not shit on myself.

Vamos Mexico. Vamos!!

I think the only thing that lacks in this mexican team is some dribbling abiity, they missed some great chances of counter attacks now due to that.

Borgetti doesn´t like Brasil, first he always scores against us, and now he´s scoring for Argentina, hehehehe. He almost got a red card now complaining at the ref since he didn´t call a fou when an argentine hit him in his face.

That linesman is crap

He continued the tradition of the SPA vs UKR match by disallowing a regular Argentine goal shortly before the end of regulation.

So it's extra time. Let's see who Germany gets to face...

I hate to say this but Argentina were called for offside in the 89th minute when it didn't exist.

That was a bit boring. I am a tad bit disappointed in Argentina but two tumbs up to Mexico for holding them off and playing so well.

Ref also fooked up when he gave Castro a yellow card for Torrado's foul. Unfortunately for Mexico, they're starting to look a bit spent.

hehe I dunno. That looked unstoppable to me. Argentina seem to be playing the great football they did in 78 (I know 86 had Maradona but I think the 78 team was more complete and played better football as a team).

nobody's fault. That was just a world class strike right there.

Agreed with Mark. Mexico look dead tired. In attack they are looking predictable. Zinha has disappointed since he came on.
