My brother isn't actually Adrian Mutu but have been about the the same type. Those specific habits remained with the males in my family. These days he's a lot calmer though. He's become quite the soccer dad (otherwise it's more common with soccer moms, isn't it?).

I may have something else that might amuse you though. At some Apple party in Paris Steve Jobs weren't allow to enter his own party because he failed to meet the dress code, and since I think he's a buddy to your icon Al Gore and Al's Cartmanesque son perhaps you could help him, and fairly cute for being a democrat and an old guy I thought you could help him. He's real dad is Syrian I believe so you get a chance to prove your generosity ;)

No I haven't. I don't have a site but I sent off one of those shots taken in a photoautomat on a bad hair day to some people I talked to on some hockeyboard. I suspect some gremlins are using it as designed dartboard.

Joke:
Rumsfeld briefed the President this morning. He told Bush that three Brazilian solders were killed in Iraq. To everyone’s amazement all the color drained from Bush’s face. Then he collapsed onto his desk, head in hands, visibly shaken, almost in tears. Finally, he composed himself and asked Rumsfeld, “Just exactly how many is a brazillian?

Had the roles been reversed and it was Materazzi that head-butted the Algerian, people would have been calling for his scalp.

Eusebitch, well.... Materazzi is way better than any stiff to ever come out of that rat-hole Slovenia. Where's ZZ Top these days ? Is he still tearing it up with that powerhouse Maribor ?

Let's remember this conversation and mark my words, years from now you will see Zidane get arrested for something. Will probably head-butt his precious Veronique and son Enzo to death.

Thanks, Bineaz. Glad I'm not the only one who found it so

I hear Zinedine got a four match ban and a five thousand Euros fine, which is being criticised for its severity by many voices in the French media.

Tell you what about Zidane's head butt. It will be a great coaching tool to show kids proper form when heading the ball. Did you see how he used his back to get power? I will be reminding my kids when we work on headers.

Italy's press slams Materazzi ban

AFP
July 21, 2006
ROME (AFP) - FIFA's decision to hand Marco Materazzi a two-match suspension for insulting Zinedine Zidane in the World Cup final has drawn fierce criticism from the Italian press.

Italy defender Materazzi was banned and fined 3,100 euros on Thursday by a disciplinary committee of world football's governing body.

But Italy's newspapers were outraged by the punishment, with La Stampa describing it as a "scandalous sentence."

Leading sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport's headline read "Zidane-Materazzi 3-2, Italy is angry" and said it was "too low a punishment for Zizou."

Gazzetta continued: "Players, bosses, politicians and many fans were all furious with the sentence."

Materazzi had admitted abusing Zidane during extra-time in the final in an incident which caused the France captain's dismissal after he reacted by head-butting the Inter Milan star.

Zidane, who was given a three-match ban and fined 4,700 euros by FIFA, later claimed in a television interview that Materazzi had insulted his mother and sister, while lip-readers employed by several newspapers said the Italian had called his rival a "terrorist."

But Republica said "There is no law that can justify putting the provocation and the reaction on the same level. In the Zidane-Materazzi case this reaction could have caused a death by giving the victim heart failure."

Gazzetta's leader editorial claimed it was an "injustice", while Corriere dello Sport said it gave a "reward to violence."

Italian Football Federation chief Guido Rossi said: "The definitive verdict of the FIFA disciplinary committee will be respected by us.

"But the episode will remain consigned to the television images and to the public opinion of the entire world."

Inter Milan president Giacinto Facchetti believes his player was harshly treated and told the club's website: "While the respect and the consideration I have for FIFA remains and always will remain, I wish to underline the disproportion for the penalty inflicted on Materazzi and the one inflicted on the French player or between the player who provoked a reaction and the one who reacted."

Materazzi will miss Italy's Euro 2008 qualifying matches against Lithuania on September 2 and a World Cup final rematch against France on Spetember 6.

Soccer: head-butt could have killed

Italian cardiologist says Materazzi risked heart attack
(ANSA) - Rome, July 21 - A top Italian cardiologist said Friday that Zinedine Zidane could have caused Marco Materazzi to suffer a heart attack when he head-butted him in the chest in the World Cup final .

The declaration comes amid growing Italian indignation at the punishment FIFA gave Materazzi for provoking Zidane's violent conduct .

FIFA's disciplinary committee banned the defender for two games Thursday - just one match less than Zidane .

"It is well documented that a sudden violent blow to the area around the heart can cause cardiac arrest, especially in young athletes, when the heart is vulnerable because the electrical circuit is destabilized (by physical exertion)," said Professor Francesco Furlanello, one of the leading figures in his field .

Furlanello joined the chorus of those protesting that the similarity of the punishments puts abusive language on the same level as - potentially lethal - violent behaviour .

On Friday Sports Minister Giovanna Melandri said FIFA has adopted a "discriminatory attitude towards Italy" .

Green party MP Angelo Bonelli described it as a "head-butt to Italian sport" .

"Putting Materazzi's words on the same level as Zidane's violent, dangerous reaction is a terrible message to the public and, above all, to the young people of the world," he said .

Communist Refoundation MP Pietro Folena said the decision was an "incitement to violence" .

Zidane said on French television he did not regret the head-butt because the Inter defender offended "the women in my family" .

Materazzi denied insulting Zidane's mother, claiming that "mothers are sacred to me" after losing his own while still a teenager. But he admitted to Milan daily Corriere della Sera that he had offended Zidane's sister .

The ban on Zidane is symbolic because he has retired from the game .

Materazzi was also fined 3,182 euros for "repeatedly provoking" his opponent .

Zidane will have to pay a 4,773-euro penalty and has agreed to do three days of community service with children and youngsters too. The committee did not give in to calls to strip Zidane of the Player of the Tournament award .

Parts of the international press agreed that the FIFA ruling was unfair .

Authoritative German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said it was "scandalous" and amounted to an "acquittal" for Zidane. "An international player has never been given such a light sentence before for such a brutal act," the piece read. Paul Doyle wrote in British newspaper The Guardian that Zidane had "hoodwinked" FIFA with his talk of provocation "into declaring that swearing at someone is only marginally less objectionable than physically assaulting them" .

Even French sports daily L'Equipe admitted that the decision had a "perverse side to it" .

"In this way, FIFA links provocation with the reaction of the provoked person in a dangerous way," an editorial read .

"A reaction will be needed for provocation to be punished, a bit like a pass is needed for a goal". Italy won the World Cup 5-3 on penalties after Materazzi equalised an early Zidane penalty, leading the match to end 1-1 after 120 minutes of play .

Some commentators have claimed Zidane, who was sent off for the head-butt eight minutes from the end of extra time, looked increasingly frustrated at France's inability to break the Italian defence despite dominating the latter stages .

Within the soccer world there is a widespread feeling that such an act as Zidane's is unforgiveable no matter how much he was provoked, pundits say .

Trying to rattle opponents in various ways is part of the game, they say .

Materazzi already had a bad-boy image beforehand, due to his record of involvement in off-the-ball incidents .

In 2004, for example, he was banned for eight matches for punching Siena defender Bruno Cirillo in the face. The ban was one of the longest in Serie A history .

Now in all seriousness (although you cracked me up) I think you've lost it.
I think he should have kept his cool but for you to not understand that some people in some part of the world will stab you if you talk dirty about their women folks means that you have almost no Italian blood left in you.
Please go to Sicily and tell some guy that his sister just sucked your dick and see what happens. Choose a small guy if you dare.
My guess is that you've never lived in the mediterranean region. There is no fucking way.

come on though.

It happens in almost every game over 8 years old. But to do it in a Final ? Of the World bloody Cup, no less? In your last game with 8 minutes to go ?

Zidane has definitely heard trash-talking before. There isn't something he hasn't heard that Materazzi could have possibly said in 3 short sentences.

I would really love to know what Raymond Domenech really things about it deep down inside. You just know he's just a little mad but he can't dare mention it or else he'll get vilified. Everybody busted their azz for 50 days and he ruined it.

don't kid yourself though. Zidane has come out of this better than it deserves. Imagine if it was an Argentine/Uruguayan/Italian player in Zidane's role ?

I have no trouble with Zidane. He just lost it. I don't think it was Materazzi's words alone. That was just the icing on the cake that made him blow his top. I think he was just frustrated with how the game was going. He was hurt, injuring his shoulder. Materazzi's word was the final straw. Not the first, not the last. No big deal. Hey, it was in the biggest stage in the world but it will certainly be a memorable exit.

I have trouble with how FIFA handled the entire matter. The disciplinary action taken was inconsistent with how other players were disciplined during the tournament. It does not matter that Zidane is retiring. The possibility exists for him to return. And in terms of precedence, what will they do the next time a player decides to take physical action.

I answered D (Zidane is dead to me)

General response was expected. Too much was being made of Zidane last game by the media and as such the fans bought into it. They annoited Zidane the Golden Ball Winner as soon as France made the semi's, even though he didn't do anything. Either of Cannavaro and Pirlo did more than Zidane did. Hell even Totti did more and he was quite poor (1 Goal, 4 Assists)

ps - I'll go one step further. To my mind, Zidane did not deserve the Golden Ball in 1998 either. That award was based on 2 plays versus Brazil, not because his general play was anything to write home about. For Juve, Zidane was average in 1998. I watched just about every game that year. If 1998 was not a WC year, the Golden Ball would have been won by either of ADP, Predrag Mijatovic, or Ronaldo.

Yeah.... He shouldn't have done it!
But to say that he is some kind of psychopath! To shit on his character as a man!

I think he should have got at least what Cantonna got when he jumped kicked a spectator even if hitting a spectator is worse. And I think that was months of community service. But to attack his character as a man is wrong.

As for Materazzi I think you guys forget that they both went in for an interview before the decision. If the decision was based purely on what we've all seen and heard sure it's a little harsh. If he told them exactly what he said and they thought it was out of line...........who knowa.
I think in a way it's good though as a warning. Really there is no need to be insulting people or people's family on or off the field.
To say: well everybody does that! doesn't make it right. 100 years ago in the US most people called Blacks Niggers.

back in 1998 (I loved that particular Juve team), Zidane was just a fraction under ADP as my favourite player. Just a tinge above Edgar Davids. I loved that old #21.

Other Awards of 2006

It will be interesting to see who wins the Ballon D'Or from France Football and the other one.

(one is based on NT manager votes and the other one by media, I think)

I can't see Zidane winning either of them. Maybe by the media, but I can't see him winning the one cast by NT managers.

7 weeks ago Ronaldinho had all awards locked up, it seemed.

He didn't do too well in the CL Final either so that may hurt him. Having said that, the way these awards are handed out, it may not even matter.

Overall Ronaldinho won the League and CL so he deserves many votes.

now now. Let's be fair

France were the best in 1998 and clearly deserved winners. Most goals scored (15) and least goals conceded (3). Same standards should apply in 2006.
