HAHAHA

what a fuking joke. Materazzi got 2 games for insulting the Algerian.

The disciplinary committee obviously wanted Zidane to save face, but this deserved 8-games. Like Falc said, if DeRossi got 4 for a elbow during the run of play, old birds-nest should have gotten a lot more. Like in the NHL, his past disciplinary record should have been taken into account.

what a joke.

LOL

Paolo Maldini, 20 years AC Milan & player at FOUR WC's, who's about the classiest players even to lace up a pair of boots and always makes it a point of staying away from contraversy, said today that the ruling was a joke and it was just so FIFA can save-face for Zidane.

Nice 3 game suspension. Let's see... he'll spend it doing some FIFA-sponsered event. He'll spend a few hours signing some autographs.

Question

Shouldn't Christian Poulsen get 2 game suspension for antagonizing Totti causing Totti to react and by spitting at him ?

I'm sure Adidas (Zidane sponsor) had something to do with this seeing as how they are also FIFA's biggest sponsor.

this is the new place where I plan to take my daily shits.

Don't despair!
In a generation or five there maybe a black Canadian who will have half the class of Zidane and will help you feel pride in your colony, feel like it's a real country.
Or maybe some day Italian will accept people of other race on their team and will be able to show some entertaining football, who knows?

Do I think he looks like Jeremy Roenick, nah, on that particular picture he looks just like some Igor.

it's way out of line compared to what Zidane received.

Zidane get's a kind of social service penalty. He has to play with kids and youth for three days. Actually both penalties are a bit ridiculous. In the Swedish penal system fines are handed out in proportion to their income. If FIFA wanted it to be more than a show for the gallery they could have structured the fines to something that really hurts somewhere in their wallets.

Just a thought

But had Zidane's head butt hit Materazzi in the face, how many games would've Zidane received? How many Materazzi?

Zidane would've received at least 5 games and Matrix none. It just goes to show you how stupid this ruling is.

How so? Just as I expect Materazzi to actaully be in control of what comes out of his yap Zizou was not throwing his head around without control, One can't argue that he seemed to attempt to land the headbutt in Materazzis face.

I think a lot of italians are gutsy and classy but unfortunately Materazzi initially acting as if he were a choir boy in the incident doesn't land him in that category but rather among the Berlusconi type slimeballs IMO.

The truth is that none of us are Materazzi fans. In fact, many were moaning that he would play and get thrown out and ruin any chance of Italy winning the WC. He did get thrown out, why is still a mystery. But he contributed to the title and comported himself well during the tournament. In this incident with Zidane, he was provoked first by Zidane. Both players were talking trash to each other, which is done in every game. Whether you agree with it or not, that is what happens on the pitch. And there is no Law of the Game that specifically covers trash talk. So for FIFA to go beyond its own jurisdiction to suspend Materazzi, one less match than Zidane, is ridiculous. I don't care if Materazzi is the most despised individual on the planet, which he is not. And the fact that Zidane automatically receives a one-match ban because he got a red card, in effect, FIFA has made trash talking equal to causing intentional physical bodily harm to an individual. Let's remember that no disciplinary action was taken by the referee against Materazzi. So it should not only be Italians scratching their heads with this decision.

And now that I read that post again, Materazzi never tried to come across as a choir boy. If he was a choir boy, then is there justification to suspend Zidane more games? For instance, what if the victim was Pirlo instead? Maybe we double the penalty. For this situation, the character of the victim is irrelevant. What Zidane did was wrong. It was not an action of defending himself. It was a deliberate act to inflict physical bodily harm on another individual. Hitting someone in the chest area could be very dangerous. Not a laughing matter. Zidane is a star. A star loved by many. But he has been far from a choir boy in his career.

But how about this approach?

Doesn't the action by the officials on the field count for anything? After confering with each other, Zidane was correctly red-carded. End of story.

I still don't understand why FIFA had to intervene and give Zidane additional games and then give Materazzi 2.

You misunderstood. What I'm asking is this: what if Zidane would've intentionally struck his head into Materazzi's head? That's the question.

I think we can all agree that Zidane intent was to hit Materazzi in the chest.

Gimme a break.

the character of the victim is irrelevant

I wasn't thinking about his character in general, of that I know nada but on that field and and afterwards after the incident he acted as if he was surprised by Zidane's reaction. Which makes him look like the typical eyeservant

But on a side note on charachter Falc, you're a lawyer as well as I am you know that eventually charachter is chipped in even if idealistically it shouldn't.

For that sake he shouldn't be carry the cross all by himself if someone else is actually is part of the problem? Just because someone has done some bad things I think we should punish them for that and no more. I don't call it justice making them scapegoats for everthing bad that happens.

It's like jokes about ethnicities. Genie for instance could crack about ta thousand jokes about the nature of swedish or russian girls but beware the one who retorts with a joke about the fastest thing in the world is a jew bicycling trough Berlin in 1942.

I'm not particularly sensitive to such jokes and I've ribbed about more than once with Eugene to know that he's not particularly sensitive about it either but rest assured that many are, I'd be banned from some discussions while Eugene would not likely be so.

C'mon, you're just like Jon Stewart, a guy who took on a scottish name without comprehending the special twists of the english vernacular on the scottish version, he'd believe he's being solicitaded by a hooker in situations like this:

A quick lesson:

"Pardon my french" -an announcement that you're about to let out foul language, sensitive persons should either cover their ears, or, in case of written discussions, skip the following. Fully in line with the Parental Advisory Board's standard.

"F*ck me!!" or "Blow me!!", does not interpret to that someone desires to have sexual intercourse with you. The meaning is rather "f*ck off" (especially when someone said something you consider silly, ridiculous or just beyond normal expectations of reality).

"Bend over and take it like a man"- can refer to gay porn but, rather sadly, I must inform you that most often I've heard it it refers to saying that someone looks like someone deserving a solid good old fashioned spanking and they're either about to get one or can consider themselves having recieved one (in a verbal exchange of opinions).

Valuable insigth you can learn as an exchange student. Perhaps you should consider it. Otherwise you can watch Gordon Ramsay's kitchen nighmares, there's a couple of good examples there as well.

What I'm asking is this: what if Zidane would've intentionally struck his head into Materazzi's head?

As in ordinary proceedings, he should have recieved a harder penalty. Set aside of the imperfection of suspension as a penalty if someone is to retire anyway.
