During the england/ecuador match the commentator mentioned that Rooney's gf gave him a $177,000 car. Is that true? & Who on earth is his gf?! He should marry the wench as soon as possible! hehehe

I'm so fuking pissed. What the hell is up with this new generation of footballers where everything has to be with the outside of the boot. Van Persie had a great solo effort and all he needed was a toe-poke. Instead he tries this blood-clot outside boot sh!t. What a fuking tw@t.

Hollands defence looks out of sorts when the ball is in their box.

I'm cheering for the Oranje as if they were my own because I'll be damned if I have to put up with these Pork-chops here in Toronto.

to be honest, England have to play much better if they want to defeat Portugal, because they arguable got the easiest second round game. No, this is not a slight. This is constructive criticism. I really see it this way. Even Paolo Rossi said England seem to be playing "without purpose". I can't believe Becks was winded so easily in that game. He looked like he was ready to barf. And please Rooney, put the ball on Lampard's right foot, not his left. His form was dreadful on that shot on goal.

having said that, still lots of time for Holland to get their head into the game.

Yes, I know better, cause I'm not a snake-oil salesman. I'm honest about it. Folks you mentioned, Ali, aren't.

Let's drop this silly subject. No one can call me England-hater, I simply shared what I saw.

NO..what is ugly is Ivanov

I've been saying for the last 3 yrs this guy is one of the sh*ttiest refs around. He's atrocious!! He hands out yellows for breathing on a guy.

That doesn't excuse the theatrics out there. Portugal is being a bunch of little bitches as they roll around and squirm like they've been sprayed with mace. Fck them.

What's a travesty is the manner in which the game was played. Deco was extremely unfortunate to receive a red card, but Figo only got a yellow card for a headbutt! Portugal absolutely deserved to be down to 9 men.

Portugal's time-wasting antics and diving in the second half was disgusting. I still think they'll beat us as Scolari is the best coach around, and we're not playing well, but I'd hate for a team like that to win the cup.

1-0 Portugal. The english look like saint compared to the Portugese. Lucky saints, no Deco, Costinha, & Ronaldo. And so many of the team on yellow that england should not have too much of a problem.

Nah, they'll still beat us. They have good players to replace the injured/suspended players. Just hope they don't go much further, and I don't think they will with all the suspensions they have, and could have after the quarter-final game.

Felipão does miracles with the team spirit. From what I´ve seen today, England didn´t play very focused, if you take a look at the way Portugal and Germany played, you would think they were playing different tournments. I mean: England seemed to be playing an ordinary tournment and not the WC.

Well, Deco's absence will hurt them for sure (but then again, he wasn't even a starter earlier on in the WC, and can they get the red rescinded? It did look harsh), but Simao Sabrosa is just as good as C Ronaldo. They also have a few defensive midfielders to replace Costinha (Petit is quite good). So if Figo's headbutt doesn't get any further punishment, they'll still have a very solid defence and an attacking triumvirate of Figo, Simao and Pauleta.

England CAN beat them, as I do believe Portugal are very beatable if you play them the right way, but won't. Trust me on that.

What a game

I am so fricking pissed. I am suffering right now seeing Portugal in there. You people have no idea how annoying the Portugese are here. Right now they are going ape-sh!t fighting with each other on College & Ossington Streets.

Bloody Holland were unlucky, but geez, they should have sorted it out a bit more.

Bad luck for Cocu hitting the crossbar. Kuft should have buried that breakaway. A fresh RvN would have caught up to it. Kuft was dead tired. He was doing a lot of work.

Portugal are diving tw@t lead by Figo. That fake of his getting hit in the face was atrocious. Deco was a bit hard done by, I think.

England. You guys MUST be loving this. No Costinha, no Deco, wannabe Ronaldo may be out with injury, Figo may be suspended.

Let's be honest, if England can't beat Portugal now, they suck. England may find themselves in the semi's before too long.

I swear I'm moving to Antarctica if Portugal win the WC.

THAT side of the bracket

Brazil are going to annhilate the winner of England/Portgual.

England will be too hot and Portugal will be too Portugese.

Portugal certainly have a chance to show us what their bunch is made up off. I mean Argentina has Messi, Tevez, among others on their bunch. Deep down inside I am still happy for 'em but i will need time to recover from what I have just seen. Both teams showed little decipline.

My dear friend Pents.

Like I said after USA Vs Ghana. Certain teams are better equipped to play Brazil (like Argentina). Ghana are in awe of Brazil. They will play Brazil like Morocco did in 1998. They may even ask for Brazilian players autographs after the game.

Ghana caught some major breaks versus the USA. Though they looked extremely good versus Italy and Czech's.

Plus no Essien ?

Symphonia Brasil is starting to find it's tune -- got it !!!

Pabs,

I know what you mean about the Pork Chops, but other countries do it too. You should have seen St. Laurent yesterday in Montreal. After the qualifying, we went down to Little Italy for some dinner.

Who shows up but a bunch of loud screaming Argentines honking their horns for an hour and waving their flags! Please..you beat Mexico in extra time..calm down.

I'm fine though with them celebrating, but why the need to go to Little Italy? Insecurity anyone? The Italians in Montreal tell me that the Portuguese do the same thing. They come to Italian territory to show off.

Piero

ahhh. It's no different in Toronto. Probably 10X's more the case as Toronto is bigger than Montreal. 1982 was the first tournament in which ethnic communities celebrated a football victory. You will remember the picture I posted after I met Paolo Rossi, right ? And I'm not just saying that either because I'm biased and because it involved Italy.

Ever since that, other communities (Argentine, Mexican) do the same. The Brasilian community is big, but not that big. All the so-called Brazil fans are black and brown people who play the victim role and know absolutely nothing about the game. Them and the Portuguese people. It really went to another level in 1994. Because in 1986 & 1990, Brazil didn't do too well in the WC. The Portuguese who failed to qualify for the WC RODE the Brazil bandwagon all the way. The Greeks celebrated their moderate success in the World Basketball Championships here in Toronto and the Italians went to the Football finals. The Portugese felt left out. They were laughed at by everybody in the city when they did this. And the events after the Angola game, when 40 people got arrested, didn't help their cause.

Part of the problem is because Little Italy borders Little Portugal. Little Portugal and the Hispanic area of the city are pretty much in the same are.

When Greece beat Portugal 2 years ago the Portugese went ape-shit and protected "their turf". The Italians here definitely supported Greece in EC'04. No doubt about that one. The Greeks here know this. If Italy were to play Portugal (which they won't because Italy sucks), the Greeks would definitely back Italy. No doubt about that one.

Most people would call those people "Canadians," or at the very least, wannabe Italians as much as the celebrators are wannabe Portuguese. True Italian territory is reserved for Rome or Milan. A pity that Canada is such absolute crap that everyone in the country has to hop on some other country's bandwagon.

Certain teams are better equipped to play Brazil (like Argentina). Ghana are in awe of Brazil. They will play Brazil like Morocco did in 1998. They may even ask for Brazilian players autographs after the game.

Ghana are a far cry from that Morocco side but supposing you have the Africans sorted out, granting Brazil a bye over the Spain/France winner still may be a bit much.

Well, Deco's absence will hurt them for sure (but then again, he wasn't even a starter earlier on in the WC, and can they get the red rescinded? It did look harsh), but Simao Sabrosa is just as good as C Ronaldo.

Might be a little premature to declare Ronaldo out for the England match anyway, what with 6 days to recuperate.
