Yeah, that must be tough to take, esp with that missed penalty decision in the second half of extra-time. What a great game to watch though - from both teams. Not to mention the fans, who were probably the best in the tournament so far.

Too bad.

Valiant effort. But the Argies were too much.

Like Penta said. Individual dribbling skill is crucial at the top of the tier. If all else is equal the team with the skilled players have the edge.

Speaking os which seems like Robinho may have pulled a muscle :(

He felt something after he kicked a ball in training. He irrepleable IMHO.

FFFFF*****^%^^^###KKKK !!!!

Those friggin' mexicans made us sweat bullets !! Why the f**k do they always have to raise their game against us ???

Only now (2 hours after the game) can my buttocks relax, they were turning blue from being so tight.

Lavolpe said yesterday that he had the key to play Argentina, and he was right : lots of pressure in the midfield, they were getting to all the loose balls before us, the first half was horrible for Argentina. You could notice the frustration in our players (and all argentine fans)

Obviously, that's a double-edged sword, because they got tired pretty fast and the 2nd half was ours, and they didn't have any reserve of energy going into OT.

Pabs, you're right about Scaloni, one of Pekerman's mistakes in this WC was not to call any player who is a natural right back (like Zanetti). Burdisso, who is a central defender, was doing OK in that position, but he got injured. His replacements suck (Coloccini and Scaloni)

The whole argentinean midfield was bogged down by Mexico, except maybe Riquelme, the only one that kept his cool and kept trying to play. Saviola and Crespo were very well contained by an impassable Mexican defense.

When Messi came in he could make some holes into their defense, but he still needs to play more for the team. Tevez did good in holding the ball at the end, but he wasn't too much of a factor in attack.

I hate to say this, but my hats off to the mexicans. They lost (thanks God !) but they can feel proud of the way they played.

It's a shame that Lavolpe is going to get ripped apart now, because he's an excelent strategist. Mexico's tactics advanced a lot thanks to him.

Every time my real username is written down, Hargreaves come up instead.

hehe I dunno. That looked unstoppable to me. Argentina seem to be playing the great football they did in 78 (I know 86 had Maradona but I think the 78 team was more complete and played better football as a team).

Not only that, this outfit hasn't needed Peru to come in and save the day with a fixed match. At least not yet.

That was a bit boring. I am a tad bit disappointed in Argentina but two tumbs up to Mexico for holding them off and playing so well.

That match a bit boring? Time to give up watching the sport and focus on other pursuits.

Certainly not any worse than this "Windy City" character who uses "we" and "our" to describe Holland, Canadian national ice hockey and wait for it.....the Pittsburgh Steelers. Take a look in the dictionary under "bandwagon fan" or "glory hunter" and you're sure to see his visage...

Caught the highlights of the first half of the Germany game and all of the second half. Germany is looking better and better each game. Surely Sweden isn't all that but it doesn't change the fact that Germany has picked up plenty of steam.

They can certainly win it all. They're playing very well and they are not the same boring team that they were over the past six years.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville

Unfortunately I had a party to go last night and I missed the Argentina-Mexico game.

I caught the highlights, and the game could have went either way. Those are the breaks. What a TREMENDOUS goal by Maxi Rodriguez. Certainly one of the best goals of the tournament.

Argentina doesn't seem to be as dominating as in the group stage but they are still impressive. Their defense has been exposed and it will continue to be. It could be their downfall.

Caught all 120 minutes of the ARG-MEX match. Good game. It really slowed down to a chess match after ARG tied it up.

In the end, the better team won. But ARG struggled yesterday. Their defense woke up after a while and for the most part they limited Mexico's scoring chances.

What's there to slate? LOL

England = Beckham=free kick. That's all. Rooney? He's a joke, overhyped by the British media and believing in that fantasy himself.

England has no clue about the ball possession concept. Bunch of primitives. Two passes in a row is the highest achievement for them. That and of course defeating Ecuador 1:0. What a great achievement.

Of course he is, that's why media, managers and players from around the globe rate him as one of the best young talents in the game.

Should we inform them you know better?

England have played one half of decent football to date, and are into the quarter finals.

I've not heard a single England fan say they expect to win it, I've not heard a single pundit praise Englands play and I don't expect to.

Bad players they certainly aren't:

Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Joe Cole all play for teams that have been in the last two CL finals.

It's the tactics, plain and simple.
