Less than 48 hours after their disappointing 1-1 draw with Peru in Port of Spain, Leo Beenhakker trimmed his Trinidad and Tobago squad for the FIFA World Cup™ finals down to the required 23 on Friday.
The unlucky soul sacrificed from the 24-strong provisional squad selected by Beenhakker last month was utility midfielder Anthony Rougier. Rougier, who plays for local club United Petrotrin, was first called up by Beenhakker for a training camp in January but after a lengthy discussion with the player, Beenhakker outlined his difficult decision.
"The guy worked fantastically and he did everything he had to do to try and make it. In the end I had to make a decision. He showed me he is a great professional and a great guy but he was not enough in terms of the conditioning to make the team," the Dutch coach told the team's website.

There may still be one more enforced change in Beenhakker's squad as the Germany-based Evans Wise has been invited to join the party, which departs for Manchester on Saturday, in case Los Angeles Galaxy's Cornell Glen fails to recover from the hamstring injury that kept him out of Wednesday's friendly with Peru.
"We have the 23 players now but we also have the Cornell Glen situation," said Beenhakker. "On one side I promised him that he can take his time to recover but obviously with the team preparation in mind (...) I promised him that he can take his time and I don't want to put pressure by giving him a deadline.
"He will miss a big part of the team preparation but he will work every day with physiotherapist and I will give him a fair chance. At the same time I had a very long conversation with Evans Wise and he will come over to England to be involved in the team preparations."
Unimpressed with his side's edgy 1-1 draw on Wednesday with Peru, Beenhakker knows there is much work to be done and will begin to put his men through their paces in a Manchester training camp on Sunday. "I don't only have to prepare 11 guys but instead the entire squad because if one player gets injured before we play Sweden (on 10 June in Dortmund) then the other has to step in," the coach added.
After the week-long training camp in Manchester, T&T will play Wales in Graz on 27 May before facing Slovenia four days later, Czech Republic in Prague on 3 June and then a final training match against German side FC St Pauli in Hamburg on 5 June.
The Soca Warriors will be playing in Group B of the FIFA World Cup finals in Germany this June alongside England, Sweden and Paraguay.
