What are the chances of T&T getting a counterattack goal in the last 10 mins? 15%? And if that happens, would this game be the biggest WC shock in the history?

That was a f***in' pile of shit. Despite their persistent hacking and defensive tactics, we should not have taken so long to beat them.

Lampard and Crouch should not play again in this WC - they could (and should) have buried this game long before the first goal went in. A defensive midfielder to complement Gerrard is badly needed, and Carrick or even Hargreaves could fill that role.

The only saving grace is the performance of Lennon when he came on, and hopefully Rooney returns to fitness soon, as they look like the only two players who can unlock a defence. Defoe should have been taken to the WC, because we're taking a real risk with Rooney, and Walcott is a kid with no experience.

Fuck Sven.

BTW

If Germany finishes 2nd in their group they will face England in the 2nd round.

Right now Ecuador is 1st in the group. So if they tie Germany they will remain top of the group.

The other scenario would be England vs Ecuador

Germany vs Paraguay (or Sweden)

Yeah, that sounds right. Either way, we'll lose. Sweden can still win the group if they win their last 2 matches, as could Paraguay on goal difference, if they win theirs.

HUG Buzzz, you're right on on your sentiments; they don't have much to show for it, but T&T can be proud.

Cheers, Bineaz, but England is going nowhere but home, or if I'm lucky, we can send the worst offenders to Siberia for a long time :P

Sweden vs Paraguay has been mediocre. I'm starting to understand why Leonid doesn't want to watch much more of this. It's been a WC that started well and has gotten progressively worse. Maybe it's nostalgia playing tricks on me, but I remember enjoying Mexico 86 a hell of a lot more than this :?

Kallstrom of Sweden has been the only bright spot in a dour half of football. I wish he hadn't joined Lyon as my team could do with a central midfielder or two.

Bah.

Mark, I agree that many games were crap. But things should get better with the last group games and knockout rounds when more is on the line.

Still, I am afraid for all the teams in this group. All of them seem offensively limited. England especially had better pick up things. At least they might rise to the level of the competition, which they often manage to do, resulting in some good games.

But, I also detest SGE. He doesn't have a clue.
Cheers, Mate

Englands win and a draw between these two nets me 150 quid.

Lennon was a positive aspect when he came on.

Next game:

Robinson

Neville - Ferdinand - Terry - Cole

Beckham - Gerrard - Lampard

Lennon - Rooney

Crouch/Owen

I hope you're right, Mate. To be honest, no matter what I say about not enjoying the games, I just know I'll watch the knockout games because it's my nature to do so.

I think you are right about the teams in this group. Both Sweden and England struggled to break down a determined, yet limited Trinidad team. The type of players both teams possess have certain attributes in midfield, but lack the intricate passing and skill required when faced with stubborn resistance. As for Paraguay, they're just dismal. I get the feeling they don't even want to win games.

Maybe Lennon should have started ahead of Beckham? Apart from setting up Crouch's goal, his approach certainly wasn't working in that type of match. Perhaps I was wrong about Beckham all along and it's time to think of the future and get him out of the team? I just thought this team could do something more than it has.

And as for Crouch, the less said the better. I don't care that he scored. He looked absolutely embarrassing out there today at times, and not anything like an international forward.

Good win for England against a team that was hard to break down. I think the Sweden game will be much more open because they can top the group if they beat England. That means England will play better too, in my opinion.

T&T can still qualify too but it looks unlikely.

I am going for a draw in the England Sweden match and as for the other two, who cares? they both be out :)

Sweet goal by Gerrard. What is going on with the English midfield? It is as if they do not connect. Is Sven letting them play or do they have strict assignments? Complain as much as you like but England is 2-0-0 without playing all that well. That is a good cushion to have.

BTW, I said after the draw that T&T matches well with England. Everyone expected this to be a blowout. Now against Paraguay, could be a different story if Paraguay has any pride left in it.

For the love of...nah. Never mind. If you can't beat them, let's join them.

Indeed, Beckham wove such subtle, midfield magic against such illustrious opposition, that he is a must for any ambition. No other midfielder could have possibly so positively impacted England in winning so gloriously! The ghosts of Bobby Charlton can indeed be laid to rest!

Bobby? Who's Bobby? See, we've already forgotten. We have Davie Boy! So gentlemen, put on your sarongs and follow Sir Beckham as he leads the Round Table on a quest to capture the holiest of grails, yes indeed, the World Cup trophy!!!

T&T is a pile of shit. The problem was that these two Euros chose play them in the air and in their fashion of hacking. Mexico put 5 goals up their ass in Mexico and Guatemala scored 7 goals on them in 2 games.

Paraguay went home for wanting to speculate. Good bye!

Well I watched the second half of the England game and it's a good thing that they won. They sure struggled but what do you expect? T&T did nothing. All they did was defend.

Even though Beckham set up Crouch, he was crap. I'm not saying he should be benched but I just can not understand what others see in him. He is soooo mediocre overall even if he can cross and take free kicks.

Rooney is still not 100% but he'll get there. England will play better in the next couple of games because of that.

I still can not understand how or why SGE continues to take Owen out in the second half. At least yesterday he had the decency to send Rooney in his place.

This team will go as far as Rooney does. If Rooney can not get to 100%, England will not go far.
But I do wonder why Agnelli ever allowed the appalling late Italo Allodi to be made general manager of Juventus when all Italy knew how he had "run" Solti on behalf of Inter for many years. -Glanville

Mate,
I have to agree with you on Beckham. No one I know ever considered him anything special. His crossing is good more often than other players but I am sure many other players can cross the ball too, as we have seen all too mant times. And there is absolutely no comparison between him and Charlton.

Quattro Italia:

England can only get better now. Teams that win the world cup usually start slowly and gain momentum as they progress. I think things will open up for England now a little more. I wouldn't be afraid if England played Germany in the next round either. It will bring the best out of them. BRING IT ON.
