Christ, looks like Felix and I are level at 10-10 from my calculations. This group is going all the way by the looks of things. Group of death!

The website has now been updated with upcoming CL and UEFA Cup fixtures so it is now ready to accept predictions.

Boye, if you still need a CLPT secretary for when you play Mark I can do it. Let me know what I have to do (as I understand it, I'd just have to collect your 2 predictions and post them later right?)

Campi:

Thanks.

Yes, you've understood the job correctly. Mark and I send in our predictions to you before Monday 21:00 CET, and somewhere between that time and kick-off on Tuesday, you post the predictions here.

Boye,

If someone drops out, I'll volunteer to go in. Palo's not around to scream SHAM. :D

Well, if someone does drop out, I guess it would be fair to give their place to you, since you're the highest-ranked player among those that are eliminated.

Speaking of Palo, where is he? In fact, where is everybody? There seems to be so few hanging around here.

I don't think very many 'made the move' over here... don't know if they went somewhere else or if they've transcended football posting! Even those of us who did come here aren't posting nearly as much. If it was going to be like this, we might as well have stayed there because no one is writing 10 messages a day...

Something has to be done about the lack of posts. I agree it is sad. Hopefully, the CL will bring back dome interest.

Boye, of course I asked becasue I am the highest ranking player... :D

Yeah, that's a legitimate point. As far as I know, the 10-messages-a-day rule is the only reason why we moved.

Well, I think people were saying that it was going to be the beginning of "doomsday", in other words, that it was a phasing in of paid message boards where eventually nothing would be free, not even the 10 posts per day. I don't know how true that is, but if it was going to cost us over half of the activity we used to get, I think most people would've preferred to wait and see. We didn't do a very good job of getting people's input and now it's doubtful we can get those people who didn't make the move back.

I wonder if we can reformat this place. The problem here is that there are too many layers. Some like it because we can add additional threads but if I want to check the Calcio thread, I have to enter the Calcio area and then click to the Calcio Italiano thread. If we can move all of the soccer stuff under the general thread of Football, then we can see all of the threads together. Just a thought.

Yeah, I agree, there are too many layers. There should be only one football folder, one politics folder and one general/forum issues folder - and then we create all threads within those three folders without adding any subfolders.

Format

Yes, having to scroll past the likes of USA football etc is too much.

My suggestion take it as you will. Three main headings: GenChat(chat of record; forum issues, Movies, books…, Pics and Paste; Other Sports; BBQ pit); Football; Geopolitcs(History, Economics, Philospohy/Religion).

However, in the lower tier for Football, we also tighten up to the most active-traditional fora: Calcio Italiano(Azzurri, Serie A, US Sports) Champions League(CLPT), English Football, Real Madrid, Brazilian, [the tournament du jour,] and a final Total Football (with subheads, Netherlands; Nordic; East Europe, Germany; Spain, Greece; Other Euros; USA; Latin America; Federations, Women's Football).

Some stuff like test thread can be relegated to a Gen Chat Forum's subissue thread. Religion combined into Geopolitcs. I defer to those who post more on the other threads.

Bit undemocratic and not geared toward attracting others but it falls within historic patterns. We need Red's input; don't know who can do it. Falc?

Comments.

My revised suggestion is:

GENERAL
- General Chat
- Forum Issues
- Movies, books and what not
- BBQ Pit

FOOTBALL
- Tournament du jour (World Cup)
- Champions League
- CLPT
- Calcio Italiano
- English football
- Futebol Brasileiro
- German, Nordic, Eastern European, Dutch etc.
-
-
-

SPORTS
- General sports talk
- US sports (and let Calcio Italiano be about, well, Italian football)
- Whatever other sports that attract enough traffic to merit a separate thread

POLITICS
- US politics
- EU politics
- Economics
- Religion/Philosophy
- History
- Whatever other topics that attract enough traffic to merit a separate thread

As a result, there would only be two tiers:
Four links on the front page; then all general chat threads on one page, all football threads on one page, all other sports threads on one page and all politics threads on one page. In other words, a bit more like WX.

CLPT? No offense but Real Madrid has greater standing. But who's to quibble. I agree we need some revisions for simplicity's sake. Though saying we stick soley to Italian football on the Calcio thread isn't going to make it so.

Boye,

Since 90% of traffic will be about the World Cup when it's due, I'd suggest to make the World Cup an extra main category at least during the finals.

Bineaz:

The point is, if you want several threads for Italian football and want one of them to be about US sports, then I don't see the need for US sports to be put under the Calcio Italiano heading.

And yes, of course we need a separate thread for Real Madrid.

Felix:

But the World Cup is still almost a year and a half away. When the WC comes, there should be more threads. But until May 2006 I don't see the need.

Boye,

That's what I meant.. I don't think that we need an extra WC category until, say, April 2006. Only "when it's due" and "at least during the finals".

OK, I don't think I was supposed to act as secretary for these UEFA matches, but Mark sent me his predictions anyway and I don't know if he submitted them on the website, so... here they are. I think there was a bit of confusion.

1) 1-1
2) 1-2
3) 0-1
4) 2-2
5) 1-1
6) 0-0
7) 0-2
8) 2-0
9) 3-1
10) 2-1
11) 1-0
12) 1-1
13) 2-2
14) 2-1
15) 1-0
16) 1-1

Thank you, Campi. I'm sorry about sending them to you; I haven't been around here much lately so when I saw on this thread I was supposed to send predictions to you for one game, I just did it without a second thought.

It turns out I was supposed to submit them on the website, and I think I did that in the end, but thanks anyway.

Zeus

I was just lucky-. believe me, I know next to nothing about the ongoing European season. I did not have the time to watch one single CL or UEFA Cup game this season. All I did when I submitted the predictions was (1) look who plays whom and (2) think about it for five seconds. In addition, don't forget that five-pointers are always a matter of luckl at a significant extent.

I also found out that thinkiing about it for much longer doesn't really improve your chances BTW.

Lucky to play against you when you have no clue I guess.

"Lucky" both of us would have been if we had been drawn against one of the three participants who failed to submit.

Just wait, in 2009 Zeus will beat you!

You have the chance to do so next week - we're only seven points adrift mind you.

BTW, what happens in case neither Eugene nor Eusebio submit predictions for the second leg? Will the winner be decided on drawing of lots, or will we see a "lucky loser" through? If the latter is the case, we could face each other again soon...

Boye's CLPT (CL) predictions:

1 2-0
2 2-0
3 2-1
4 3-1
5 3-2
6 2-1
7 2-2
8 1-1

I did not recieve Boye's opponent's predictions, so cannot post them. It appears he or she missed the deadline as Boye's are the only ones I have in my mailbox :!:

Bineaz:

Well, I can't disqualify anyone for one single no-show. I don't know why Eusebio or Eugenius did not predict this week.

But if either Eusebio or Eugenius do not submit predictions for next matchday, you can take their place. Here's what we'll do: you submit your predictions. If Eugenius does not turn up, you'll replace him and bring your predictions with you. If Eugenius turns up but Eusebio doesn't, you'll replace Eusebio. If both players turn up next time, your predictions will simply be discarded.

You'll start with 0 points and will probably need to win the remaining matches to get through, so you'll be at a disadvantage. But you've already been eliminated, so it's not entirely unfair that you re-enter at a disadvantage.
