Buzzz, are they UEFA Cup predictions or the Champions League? Remember, you have to make two sets of predictions this week.

I will post Felix, Boye and Eugenius' predictions after the deadline.

Did you get my predictions on the website, Boye? It appeared to be working when I made them earlier but I never get confirmation e-mails anymore. :?:

A serious question:

A have a bye this week in the UEFA prediction Cup. Do I get three points if all my predictions net me 0 points?

If you don't have an opponent, then the situation is the same as if you did have an opponent, but your opponend failed to submit predictions. IOW, if you did submit predictions, you would get your three points, even if you didn't score any precition points.

So, the answer is: Provided you submitted your predictions, you will definitely get three points, even if you predicted basketball results...

That's at least how I understand the rules.

Bineaz

I'm not entirely sure what my picks were as I submitted them through the website but didn't note them down at the time

I'm almost certain that I had exactly the same scoreline for the Barca game as you do, and also a draw for Arsenal - Juve (possibly 1-1 too).

Inter - Villarreal was 2-0 (I think) and Lyon Milan may have been 1-1, but I'm absolutely unsure there. I don't think I had a Lyon victory down. Where is Boye when we need him? He'll have my scores.

Eugene, I actually don't know the answer to that. I don't think it's covered in the rules; perhaps you'd only get 1 point?

Mark, you're right, it's indeed not covered by the rules. Either we assume that Eugene's "dummy opponent" scores 0 points, in this case Eugene would get one point in such a situation. Or we assume that his dummy opponent does not predict at all, in this case Eugene would get 3 points.

The rules have the "General clause" for such scenarios, IOW it's up to Boye to decide.

Actually, Felix, the more I think about it, the more I realise that you should be right here. Eugene couldn't realistically "draw" with an opponent who doesn't exist.

It's a bye week, so yeah I'd assume the 3 points are Eugene's, as his imaginary opponent couldn't do much with his point for a draw.

Sorry, I must have lost my mind for 10 minutes there.

I have no idea why there are no longer any confirmation mails. But I still get the predictions in my mailbox.

Anyway, I'm missing UPC predictions from both Buzzz and Eugenius, and since they are playing each other I'll give them both a 24-hour extension of the deadline. All other predictions have been uploaded on the website.

As for Eugene Berkovich, judging from his predictions, he may indeed end up with 0 points on this matchday. But although this is not explicitly covered in the rules, there is a precedent dating back all the way to the first season when SammyThePooh beat RedFury in the Quarterfinals on a walk-over, with 0 points against RedFury's no-show.

Basically, when you have no opponent, or your opponent does not show, you will get full match points even if you don't actually score any prediction points.

Updates in April

During the first half of April, I will be travelling to Tromsø, Zurich and Copenhagen. While I am away, I will not be able to update the website. The practical consequences of this are as follows:

For the next matchday, I will update the website with predictions on the evening of April 3rd. However, after that update there won't be another one until April 16th, which is when results as well as fixtures for CL/UC semifinals will be updated. That's only one day before the next deadline, April 17th. Therefore, given the short period of time between the update and the deadline, you may send predictions for the CL and UC semifinals by mail without match numbers before that date.

For the Wolfgang Kühn Cup, if I qualify, my opponent for the first matchday can be found by calculating the scores and setting up the final tables for 2nd Round Groups A and B. On the April 18th-19th matchday, group winners play each other and runners-up play each other. Whoever plays me, should send his/her predictions to Marko. If I play Marko, he should send his predictions to Felix.

Faulty Format

I was checking out the predictions and there is a big problem in the format. Today, we have a third and final round that will decide who makes it through to the semifinal round. The problem is that there are only 4 games to predict while in the last two sessions, there were 8 games to predict. So while we went head to head with two of our opponents with a potential 40 points to earn, we now have only 20 points in this round. It makes it uneven as this third match is equal to the other two. Next year, this phase of the tournament should be reformatted, perhaps going with a knockout round.

If I calculated correctly, Boye beat Eugenius to win group A, and Mark won group B with a win over Bineaz. So, matchday 1 of the Wolfgang Kühn Cup (deadline 3rd April 2100 CET) should see the following matches:

Boye vs Marko and
Eugenius vs Bineaz.

It is a farce I tell you. This week's competition created an imbalance in the final calculations. Here we have a group stage where two match days gave the potential for twice the numbers of the third match day. It is as if the WC group stage had the first two games played for 90 minutes but the last game was played for only 45 minutes. So the opponents in that group of 4 did not play each other in equal amounts. The second leg should be included as the second half of the predictions to give balance to the final determination of who makes the semifinals.

I don't mind the fact that matchday 3 of the 2nd round is half as long as the previous two matchdays - but I definitely like the idea of having a two-legged semifinal during the semifinal of the real CL. So I would support the idea of changing the CLPT format accordingly from next season.

Remember, the next stage is a league competition, i.e. each remaining competitor will face each other once.

BTW, In a message above, Boye said that group winners will only play each other on Apr 18-19, but I referred to the schedule as of the CLPT site:

http://clpt.boyebjerkholt.com/wkc_1.html

which says that the schedule of the "Wolf league" is as follows:

Matchday 1 (QF 2nd legs): A1-B1, A2-B2
Matchday 2 (SF 1st legs): A1-B2, B1-A2
Matchday 3 (SF 2nd legs): A1-A2, B1-B2.

I finally learnt what you meant by a Chinese buffet, Buzz. I was always confused when you talked about them, as we'd never had such things here. There is one in the city centre now, but I doubt it will last long.

I'll have to try it next week. Shame they don't let you have as much as you can drink too, otherwise I'd be there every week :P

Get your ass back on the General Chat board.

Leo and I have been kicking sand in Eugene's face at the beach. Eugene's now currently taking a Charles Atlas reading comprehension and debating course that he googled up. In no less than 6 weeks, Eugene will come storming the beach, declaring that he is no longer a 97 pound weakling.

He'll be loaded with adjectives, adverbs, synonyms...even some facts.
