I'm not registered at bigsoccer, so let me ask you guys something.

When you guys log on, does it automatically take you to the messages you haven't read ? Or do you have to find your way through the read/unread messages to find your place ?

You have to find your way to messages from what I see (sucks). It's also terribly unorganized. There is a topic and forum for every little thing. I wish it was more centralized.

See, that's stupid

The beauty of all the boards we've been a part of is that it takes us automatically to the unread section.

and like you said, a entirely seperate board is there for everything. Rather than a few boards and having the debate flow from there.

Fox Sports

since they televise the game a lot in NA, I went to their site to see if they have any message boards.

Instead of traditional message boards, they have bloggers with their columns (or blogs) and you can then add a comment about that particular blog. No such thing as starting your own discussion or topic.

The funny thing is that I think BigSoccer uses the same system we are on, phpbb. So you think there is the capacity.

You can subscribe to certain threads and limit yourself to them but that way you also limit yourself to very little news outside your own small world.

This board would be great with 50% more members, we'd have the same quality but more activity.

What's to stop us setting up a site, and apart from the message boards adding the odd "article" on a front page that individuals could write?

Falc could do one every now and then about youth football, either that or a weekly Del Piero love-in.

Pabs could do a weekly rant about whatever's made him chuck his rattle out the pram.

Eugene could do an EE football article.

Mate could write a million word article about nothing in particular.

Myself and Mark could twoddle on for ages using words that nobody outside the UK know the meaning of.

Buzz can post pictures of her clatterer and drum up new members (see what I did there!) or perhaps find herself a man.

Hell we could even take it a step further and, using Skype, do a Podcast, there has to be some interest in listening to Pramzan/Casati and Falc go at it.

If you get in, you can always go straight to the newest messages of every thread by pressing a special button next to a thread's name.

There is also a way to simply go to the newest messages not separated by threads but I never tried it and, frankly, that option makes no sense to me...

You know I don't have anything against trolls as long as they don't clog up everything. I must admit I'm guilty of having created a couple myself now and then. They're useful to have at times.

I liked trolls/puppets like Mr. Crankypants and such who could come up with the most PC snarky remarks that would never fit into the vocabulary of comments that passed the PC test.

If there's interest and a willingness to contribute I could look into it.

2 more options to eliminate

CBS Sportsline Message board

obviously CBS is not into soccer/football, but they do have message boards for all sports. I went to their soccer boards but got redirected to baseball message boards. Typical of CBS to be centered around baseball.

MSN NBC

forget this board. I spent all of 30 seconds on this board and in between comments of "Team xyz is dirty" and "Team 123 SUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX", I had all I could handle.

ESPN Soccernet Boards

As Brasilian stated, we can forget this board too. Equally bad as MSN's boards. They don't even talk football :? . It's only about slagging each other off. It's a free-for-all with no rules and no order.

So far (as I see it), bigsoccer.com is the best option.

Trolling is not a problem there. There are moderators that put people in their place quickly so I can attest that it won't get out of line. Believe me, most of us lived through CNNSI during France'98 and bigsoccer is much better than CNNSI was in this respect.

Again, only problem is that it is TOO big. And as such, impossibe to read everything, so you have to be selective and maybe stick to a few threads (which is more than what we're getting here so that shouldn't be a problem)

We will lose each other. Just spent the last 20 minutes reading the Juve threads on Big Soccer. I don't see myself jumping around there as I do here.

How about those of you lurking on other forums posting our URL and inviting people over?

It doesn't work that way. First off, I doubt people will opt to want to belong to 2 different message boards.

But more importantly, that is just a "band-aid" solution as the big problem with this board (also WorldCrossing) is that they had no links. Think about it. We are all carry-overs from CNNSI (a MAJOR news outlet)

bigsoccer.com is massive. They were even mentioned in an article on the Wall Street Journal during the WC.

Pabs - If I go to BigSoccer, chances are that I will probably hang out on the Juve board. I am thinking about joining to do just that. I doubt that I will visit other threads. That means that I will likely lose contact with most people that I have been friends with around here. It is not as if we can take our community, start our own forum at BigSoccer with the threads we have in place. They already have those threads there. Moreso than here. When we went to World Crossing, we were able to recreate what we had at CNNSI. When we moved here, again what we had before. I just do not see that happening at BigSoccer.

well. Seeing as how you are already on a Juve ML, why even go to the Juve section at bigsoccer ? Just use B.S. for your Italy news and pick about 5 other threads.

Personally speaking, I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to do. I mean, I cannot see myself hanging out at the Suriname thread

this board is dead now. About 8 of our old CNNSI are already there (Windy, Eugene, Piero, Alma, Matt, others) What are we waiting for ?

Having said that, let's not rush this decision, and let's explore all options and really think this through.

Where are they? If we could create our own World Football thread at BigSoccer, it would be one thing. But I don't think we have any control at all. So basically, we all go our separate ways and hope that we cross paths by luck.

What do *YOU* suggest we do then ? Stay here until the last 8 of us trickle away until it's finally just Campi and palo remaining and palo finally confesses his long-standing deep erotic homosexual feelings for him ?

Well, I hope he expresses that while we are still around.

I am not sure. If this place dies, it dies. A lot of the old guard just lost interest. So the question is whether those of us left want to venture elsewhere at the risk of getting separated or if we want to continue to chat here. There is nothing that says we can't do both.

Yes, but Falc

If we stay here, then we will get seperated !

You keep harping on the fact that moving to a bigger site (in this case Bigsoccer) will mean we will lose contact with each other. In fact, it's the opposite ! It allows the discussions to continue and flourish more than ever. We will finally get that new injection of posters that will add new debates and different POV's. As well as re-connect us with posters we already know.

Pabs:

Funny thing is that I never hung out at Big Soccer. I went there once or twice to catch up with Juanele but the place is too damn big. The reason those folks remember me is that I'm a legend. They remember that I am not alone. Millions of ethnic Americans do not feel or want to be unhyphenated. They remember because they know that behind my lunacy there is truth. But I am in my land and like Popeye, I is who I is. FOlks like Bard, Superdave, simply bitch or any other morn can kiss my light brown ass.

Do you get along with fellers on the Mexican boards ? you don't have to make it your mission to bust chops on the USNT board, you know.

Pabs - I signed up at BigSoccer. Maybe we will bump into each other. Maybe not. For now, I am just reading posts. Not sure if I want to engage in discussion, even on the Juve boards. More haters there then the two Parmigianni and lost Romanista we have here.

I come here to chat with you guys. Been doing so for 8 years. So this is a place to meet with friends. And I would like to continue with that. If we can keep this going, then fine. If not, then it was good to know all of you.

There is no doubt that you have desire to expand. Do so. None of us are holding you back. But if you think that by us crossing the internet desert to find the land of milk and honey at BigSoccer will somehow make our small community bigger, I will tell you that it will not happen. We are little fish at BigSoccer and will just join the crowd. And if that what happens, fine. I know that your hope is that we can somehow keep our thing going but include others. So do the rest of us but at this point, I don't see how that can happen.

Let's just clarify something

I did not say we have to move to bigsoccer.com or that it would be the best thing. I merely stated that we have yet to get 1 new poster since we left CNNSI. Is something not wrong with this system ?

I posted bigsoccer.com, in the same way I have posted 2 other potential sites to go to. Have any of you guys even checked them out ?

I just mentioned bigsoccer as that is the site that all our ex-members have gone to, that's all. I would have just thought it would be natural for us to go there as well.

Yes. Let's improve this site. That's my main point.

Let's use Ali's suggestion. I'm not computer savvy-enough to do help in this regard, but I will support any initiative.

I guess you are right about me Pabs. That is why this is the only futebol board I post on. my other boards are all skating boards. I just do not want to even try to fit in a bigger futebol board. So if you all move it will most likely be without me. Don't want to sound like a drama queen but it is the truth anyway.

But what is this about having a discussion on where to post? Eventually I post at other sites, and as I understood there's no requirement that you have to post here and here only...or is it?

And who are "we"? Maybe I'm overly sensitive but excessive use of the "we" mantra has often led me to leave various discussion forums in the past.
